Gastric Sleeve Video On Youtube

Recommended Posts

I just watched a video of the sleeve being done. Why did I do that?I'm freaking myself out. They showed a video at my seminar 2 months ago, however it seemed more freeky from my living room. I could see the heart beating and I just kept thinking... What if they nick the heart on mistake while putting in the sutures? Ahhhh I totally regret watching it. Advice....If you haven't already don't watch a live surgery video.

I watched one on youtube too - probably the same one - I saw the heart beating too. Actually it gave me a little comfort watching it - at least I knew what I am getting into. Interesting...

I have watched a couple video's. Didn't phase me. But I love stuff like that, it's one of the reasons I want to go into nursing.

My Dr. has one on youtube and wants us to watch it. It rather grosses me out but I try not to focus on it.

It's normal to get a little freaked out about surgery, but this is routine stuff for these doctors and no big deal to them so take that for what it's worth. As someone who has had this surgery, I can say it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. Relax, it's going to be fine.

I've watch those videos plenty of times. It certainly gives me a higher level of respect for the work these doctors do. The human anatomy is a beautiful thing, however when I see the blood at times... freaks me out. Glad to know I will be knocked out while it's happening. LOL.

Those videos make it look so easy and practically show you step by step. Its so easy a caveman can do it. I know for a fact that I can perform this surgery. I should have been a surgeon. Too bad child support and a greedy ex gf got in the way. I think that I would have been great.

I watched two videos, and while it was a little scary thinking "they will be doing this to me??" it also answered questions I had. To nick the heart they would have to go through the diaphragm past the lungs and to the left. I hope my surgeon knows when he reachs the diaphragm to stop. LoL!! Pre op nerves can get people thinking worst case scenarios. Just imagine when you go in for surgery the doc is in the back practicing on a game of operation. LoL!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
