I lifted more than I should. Carried groceries and a gallon of milk up my stairs. In my 3rd week post op. Don't think I popped a leak or anything, but it feels hurts when it didn't before

Sounds like a normal reaction. Pretty soon post-op I had to lift DD off a countertop (sigh). I had felt good before that, but it set me back a few days for sure.

If you must carry things up stairs, try using a backpack or rucksack. It will keep things close to your center of gravity so that your body doesn't have to strain a particular area for the added weight.

yeah - I got kicked in the tummy in my third month. I was very concerned. It burned for about 3 hours. So again, off to doc next day, no drinking, barium drink test (5th time but this time we got insurance to pay, mostly). Ok - but they told me no glass chewing for while yet....

a) you dont "pop a leak" a leak occurs when the surgery/surgeon either didnt sew an area or you stretched your sleeve by eating too much too soon.

B) a gallon of milk is nothing... stairs no problem...

i'd be more nervous if you said you vaccummed your house, picked up your 30lb 3 year old all day long up and down out of a crib, reached up and down etc... then i'd be worried of a hernia- THAT is the reason they tell you not to lift --

google it INCISIONAL HERNIA...

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
