Drop In Testosterone After Surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm 8 days out of surgery. Has anyone experienced a drop in testosterone immediately following surgery? I'm pretty sure (though not confirmed yet) that I must be low on testosterone. I feel weak and lethargic, I have no sex drive, and I'm not sleeping well--all symptoms of low test. Is this common?

I am 6 days post-op. I take a supplement for Low-T, so I am sensitive to what you are saying. But...I think those symptoms are really typical of what I hear post-op, and that probably has more to do with the rapid weight loss and lack of Protein than anything hormonal.

Fire up a little adult entertainment and see what happens. You might just need to get your mind right. You have been getting your ass seriously kicked.

those symptoms can be the nutrition changes as well. after you get more healed and intake increases have your T checked if still concerned. Blood test at hospital or dr's office or the swab type test offered at some pharmacies.

Thanks guys. I appreciate your responses. The strange thing was that I felt perfectly fine, and had a sex drive, until day 6 post-surgery. I see my surgeon tomorrow so I'll address these concerns and ask him for a testosterone test

I think until you're at least a couple month out, any test would be irrelevant. Your body is going through so much change right now and levels will be different week to week. Hormones are stored in fat and will be released in waves affecting you in all sorts of ways. Your nutrional changes also affect every aspect of your body.

I'm guessing right now, your body's last concern is being fertile. It is trying to figure out why it isn't getting it's usual 3,500 calorie a day allotment and what it is going to do now. Time to hit the reserves.

Give it some time and get tested if you still feel the same way.

I agree with the rest of the guys, it's more than likely post-op trauma then low T. I was diagnosed with low T prior to surgery and started on T shots. Post-op I had to cut my dosage in half, extend time between shots then cut the dosage in half again by getting a lower strength scrip. My T levels went through the roof as my weight dropped. I still don't produce enough naturally so I still have to take shots only far less than pre-op.

As stated above, wait a few months for your system to stabilize then bring it up with your doc.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
