When Can I Go Swimming Post Surgery?

Recommended Posts

In summer I love the pool and the ocean. When can i go swimming? Not necessarily exercise but a quick dip in the pool.

My doc said four weeks. My incisions looked healed today (week 3), and I am so ready to get in the pool.

My doctor said it varies because he releases his patients to bathe and swim once their incisions are healed.

My doctor said 4 weeks because of the risk of infection at the incision sites. Showers only for 4 weeks, no "soaking" of any kind....

Mine said one week, but it's only in my own pool. Not fresh Water or public pool.

Mine said 6 weeks, or as soon as all of the scabs fall off NATURALLY...

Are we able to shower the day of surgery or day after? OMG I didn't even think about possibly not being able to shower.

I was able to go swimming at 2 weeks out but I had to cover my incisions with tegaderm. It is a clear thin waterproof plastic that doesn't stick to wounds worked great!

Once your incisions are healed. Just take it easy. Just floating around is totally cool. But if you want to swim or do anything that would use your abs That would be a no no. Have fun! swimming is my favorite!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
