5 Day Post Opt And Have A Potein Question

Recommended Posts

Ok so my instructions they gave me when I can home. Says 4 to 6 oz of Protein 2 to 3 x day. Now I bought a bottle of that muscle milk. And the entire bottle only has 22 gams of protein in it. And If I just use 4 oz 3x a day I am only getting in 22 grams a day. And it says I need to have 60 a day.Am I missing something ?

I was at Wal-Mart last Saturday, and I actually found "New Whey" Protein bullets for $2.49/ea (I think) and you can buy them for $13.99 for 6 (I think). Anyway, they had Grape, Mixed berry and Watermelon. They each have 43g of whey Protein in 3.5 oz. bottles. Just 2 of these would put you well over your minimum of 60 oz. Maybe this will help you get your protein in? I had one the other morning just to get an idea (I haven't been sleeved yet) and I found them a bit over-sweet, so I will more than likely want to mix them with Water, but overall they weren't all that bad. Hope this helps.

Did they mention "bullets" to you? I am using the New Whey brand that has 42 grams of Protein per tube aka bullet. I got them at Walmart for about $2.50 each. They are very sweet but I dilute it with 16 ounces of Water. My doctor says one a day is enough.

I know right after surgery, 1st week, Clear Liquids without worry about Protein. 2nd week full liquids including cream Soups and Protein Shakes. Goal was 60 grams that week. I would call your NUT. Good luck!

I love the bullets. They really curb any hunger, not to mention they satisfy 1/2 Protein requirement. Calories - 180; carbs-2; sugars- 0. I'm happy to know they are 2.50 at Walmart .

Yeah, this is what my doc said too. I'm going to find those new Ensure clear liquid things, to try and get a hint of protein, even in the clear phase.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
