I can not understand why fruits which have natural sugar is bad. I have having a really hard time grasping that. I lost my first 25 lbs in one month before pre-op diet and surgery eating 2.5 Protein servings, 4 veggie servings, 3 fruit servings and 3 starch servings per day.

Can someone please explain this to me?

It is not bad at all- there is tons of scientific evidence that a plant based diet provide all of the nutrients and Protein we need to not only be satisifed but healthy. It is just our government's way and physicians job security to push the adkins/meat is the only protien source diet. It is really terrible...

It's really not- (Its one of the LOWER sugar fruits)

Taking in too much sugar is bad period.

But all things moderation:) I dont eat the Protein bars with hoards of sugars and carbs- so you have to choose where you spend your sugar dollars <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> I choose it in a fruit that will hydrate me- as well as get my body finctions going <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Berries. Raspberry, blackberry cranberry, lemon lime are the lowest fruit on the index . Peaches, blueberries, most melons, strawberries are all medium index. oranges and their family, pears, Grapes all the highest.

But really if you want a sweet snack, a hunk of grapes is still better for you than a Twinkie right? I eat Tons of fruit every week. Especially since this is the perfect season!

Agreed- I dont eat grapes yet- because of the skins- I'm sure I'm okay to do so- but they are sweeter and I have t gone there just yet :)

fruit does have natural sugar, but also has Fiber and other nutrients.

So it is a much better snack. That being said, fruit are still carbs. And nuts while they have Protein are a fat.

Just plan well, and see the whole picture.

Watermellon may have the natural sugar, but not a lot of Fiber. Fiber seems to help off set the sugar.

Hmmm that means I need to stop eating apples?

I would still eat apples as they are a great carb with fiber and nutrition. Just keep in mind they are a carb. Having it with a protien like cheese or Peanut Butter will help keep u satisfied longer, too.

Since my surgery I have been craving fruit also. I put it in the blender until smooth like applesauce.

I can't seem to resist the nectarines in the stores right now - they are always as hard as a rock when I get them so I buy 4 at a time and ripen 2 at a time in a bowl on the counter - so 2 nectarines a week for me right now - I know that they are higher in sugar than other fruits, but I enjoy them so deeply and I savor them that I think this is a good thing for me, emotionally and physically. I don't eat much carb on a daily basis as it is (usually under 40g).

I've spent a lifetime just gobbling garbage that was no good for me, and not paying any attention - I am very mindful of the nutrition count of that little nectarine and I enjoy every morsel of it. Once they are no longer in season I wont have them any more until next year :) It is an astronomically better choice than the things I would eat pre-surgery.

A perfect way to soften and ripen those nectarines is to put them in a paper bag- roll the top down- and leave them for a day or two!

They come out sweeter and softer! Our family does this every time :)

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
