I have a quick question for those of you who are experiencing post-op lactose intolerance. Is it just with milk or is it with yogurt and cheese as well? What about almond milk? Just wondering. TIA.

I was never lactose intolerant until Protein Shakes, but now have problems if I don't take lactaide before drinking.. It seems to work like a charm so I guess i am lactose intolerant. I also use lactade milk or soy milk. Good luck

I was slightly lactose intolerant prior to surgery. But after surgery I have to avoid all forms of dairy and whey or its really bad! Almond milk and soy milk are no problem fir me but make sure to watch the sugars in some of the brands if you are watching carb intake.

Luckily not everyone develops lactose intolerance after surgery - so hopefully u will be one of the lucky ones!

Mine is just with straight milk. Goes right on through in under 5 minutes. Drink the milk, hit the bathroom. I have no problem with yogurt or cheese. Cottage cheese is iffy for me. Sometimes it's okay, other times it's not. I just don't eat it much, maybe once every two months or so.

I am slightly lactose intolerant now with straight milk. cheese and yogurt are no problem, so its going to be a toss up post-op. Surgery date is 8/28.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
