3 Days Out. Omg Diarrhea.

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved July 13, Friday. I have had massive diarrhea since then. It's awful. Anything I can take for the diarrhea and god awful bubbly guts? I feel so awful and full from the bloating. Ugh.

All you are taking in are liquids. liquids in, liquids out.

As soon as you start with full liquids, this will start to change, and as you move along - it will probably be the opposite problem. When you get to solids, things should normalize.

Be prepared to just roll with the flow (literally)....

Oh I know the liquid in and liquid out is hard, but there will be a day you miss it and Constipation can be pretty painful and uncomfortable too.

I'm using metamucil, suppositories and I have tried Milk of Magnesia but it made me gag and I can only tolerate 1 tablespoon of it without getting sick.

I have to be careful having too many artificial sweeteners such as sugar-free products like sugar-free popsicles, s-f pudding, s-f Jello makes me have a gassy belly and gives me headaches.

Eventually it will slow down, I promise you but please be sure to get in your liquids because you don't want to be dehydrated if you are going way too much.

Contact your surgeon and dietietian they should be able to help you. I have had tremendous problems with the diarrhea. None at present, THank God, but I was suppose to be on Protein Drinks for 2 wks pre op and diarrhea started day one. by day 7 I was weak and afraid I would wind up in the hosp with dehydration so I called the doc and was told to dc the shakes for 3 days and eat lean chicken breast and salad. That resolved the problem, but then to start on soy Protein and soy milk. Same problem. The surgeon told me that some people can not handle all the protein and the nut told me that after surgery I would not be drinking anything like as much protein and would not have as much to worry about. So here it is day 7 post op and first bm. I had to drink a whole shake just to make it happen today. LOL What a surprise. Just to show you that things do change for the better. Yeah it is hard to get anything clear liq that will stop it. Ask if you can take lomotil also get some lactaid chewable to try when you get on full liquids. Chew it just before you drink your Protein Shakes and use lactaide milk for the shakes. I have never been lactose intolerance, but the lactaide seemed to stop the problem for me. You know, just clear everything with your surgeon and keep him informed with problems. Good luck to you.

Liquids in = liquids out.

Healing guts are noisy. It takes a long while for them to quiet down permanently. Are you on a PPI? You should be taking Nexium, Prilosec or Protonix to control the acid.

This phase passes quickly. I hope you feel better soon.

Oh, and that bloated, crampy and full feeling sounds suspiciously like my lactose intolerance felt. You might try mixing lactose free shakes with warm tea or Water for a day and see how you're feeling.

Best of luck,

~Cheri

I became instantly lactose intolerant and had to use light soy milk instead of skim milk and the gas and horrible diarrhea subsided ..try that and see if it gets better..and as always call your dietitian!

Ditto. I had my surgery Friday the 13th, and did fine till I drank some apple juice at the airport on monday. I've been like Niagara falls ever since. I went on ahead and took some Immodium. But my guts still sound like a one man band.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
