Well you certainly don't want some e.r. Doc cramming an NG tube down there, that could be bad. Under ICE in my cell phone, along with my husband as a contact, I put a separate contact with a big red medicalert symbol that says ICE MEDICAL INFO. Then it says the info I want them to know.

You could always get a dog-tag style necklace that goes under your clothing. OORRRR they make medicalert bracelets that don't even LOOK like it. They're nicer looking than the silver chain ones.

Your anatomy changes signifcantly with a vertical sleeve gastrectomy. The medic alert Bracelet is there to notify any paramedics and medical staff should you need to be intubated that anatomy is not normal and be careful. The last thing one would want is for them to damage to the sleeve because they were not aware of it.

It is for your safety and protection.

If you are concerned about people asking what the medic alert bracelet is about you can always wear a decorative bracelet and/or necklace. Here is a great website that makes very attractive, unconventional medic alert bracelets with style! No one would ever know and all medical personnel are trained to look at bracelets, necklaces, etc before administering care.

P.S. Once you lose a bunch of weight you won't care who asks you. You will be so proud! You will want to shout your success from the rooftops.

For those that have had a VSG and wear a Medic Alert Bracelet - what does it say on the back of your medic alert bracelet? Did you put VSG, Vertical Sleeve Patient, etc.?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
