13 Days Postop And I Have A Drinking Problem...lol

Recommended Posts

Anyone else have problems with...drinking? I dunno if my sips are too big..but it feels weird and like it hits my stomach and splashes backwards a bit then back down....or like a bubble comes out of my tummy..or something...it doesn't hurt but not something I enjoy...doesn't happen with frozen drinks or food or popsickles mostly just Water liquids like Gatorade or water...

Anyone else find drinking to be odd?

Drinking is rough. If I take too big of a sip then it goes down and stops right before it goes into my stomach. Then I have to wait for it to funnel in, while trying to burp air out of my stomach to let the Fluid in. I actually hate drinking. lol.

I have the same issue..mostly with Water. I have to take tiny sips and it just gives me this weird feeling. I tend to be able to tolerate warm liquids better.

I just took 2 big sips to see what happens and yup it pretty much splashed back before it went in followed by a burp a little firm pain then relief so maybe it is the to big sips. I just take smaller sips and it is getting better. Good luck to you.

I had the exact same problem. I hated drinking so much that I became dehydrated twice. :( I'm four weeks out now and Water finally goes down nicely now! :) It gets better. Hang in there!

I found eating little pieces of ice is easier for me. I run ice through the blender to make it slushy, or even better, get a huge cup of ice from Sonic. They have the best ice.

It gets easier to drink the longer you are out. I am 7 weeks out and have no problems drinking now. The first 3 weeks or so I got the same thing

It does get easier and those small sips do become much bigger. I'm 6 weeks out and am taking in the regular size sips I took before surgery - about 2 to 3oz at a time. Once in a while I will need to burp afterwards but mostly its all good. I think it was at 4 weeks that I began drinking normally.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
