2 Days Out, Scared To Drink.

Recommended Posts

I got sleeved on Friday. I went home Saturday. I'm terrified to sip things. It doesn't hurt. Just lots of burping. How often and how much did you drink right after? I'm terrified I will vomit, and rip my insides, not to mention how painful that could be.

You need to drink almost constantly. Shoot for about 4 ounces an hour. That's one shot glass every 15 minutes. Maybe something warmer will help you. The last think you want is to get dehydrated. So sip sip sip. Later you will have less burping and it will go down easier. But for now, drink what you can, but drink as much as you can.

Burping and gas sucks, but it comes with the territory. Keep hydrated, remember that is rule #1 for week 1. Drinking warm liquid helped me. Also if prescribed prilosec, prevacid, or nexium make sure to take them. My gas pains were worse than the surgery pains so I understand where you're coming from. Burping is mostly annoying for me.

If your surgeon's office gave you med cups, use them (one ounce), whatever you do, don't try a Water bottle. If you don't have them, perhaps you can have someone get you disposable shot glasses or use a shot glass. For one ounce cups I usually got 3 sips per cup. After 3 cups, I would get full and couldn't do a forth and I had to wait a bit.

Sometimes warmer goes down better or room temperature. Since quitting coffee and decaff coffee before surgery I switched to Bigelow (blue box) Decaff Peppermint Tea with Truvia. It even tastes good when it gets cool or cold. That will count as Water also. It actually made my tummy feel good. I usually kept 3 med cups going at once. One with the Tea, one with water and one for the Isopure.

I was in hospital for 5 days after surgery and after the leak test day after surgery I couldn't get the water down almost. It hurt me and it was bubbly and airy and horrible. I was able to get the Tea down and after I learned on the tea, I was able to do the water.

It gets easier as long as you remember to sip. Now I can drink an ounce in 2 sips and I can drink more at a time, cold water doesn't bother me, I drink out of normal glasses and I can drink out of water bottle, but I do take in too much air sometimes.

Welcome to the loser's bench and give your body time to heal and if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. Every day is better than the day before :)

How do I know I'm full and need to wait? What does it feel like?

You'll just have to drink slow. Really pay attention. Mine was a small cramp, like drinking something ice cold on an empty stomach. Still kinda is. Everyone has their own. Someone I read, it was a hickup. Another their eyes watered...

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
