Steroids!!!

Recommended Posts

I have been on steroids for a week for bursitis in my hip. I have been eating like a hog. Every time I'm on steroids, I eat a lot. Tonight I ate 5 two-bite brownies, in addition to about 6 oz of steak, a baked potato and green Beans, and I can't seem to stop. I'm hungry. Steroids do that to me. Luckily I only have one pill to go and it isn't working anyway. I gained a pound this week which is aggravating. My hip hurts horribly, but I bought an iPod and dance at night for exercise with the help of hydrocodone. I did 20 minutes of dancing and 20 minutes of arm waving directing Malaguena tonight. But I just hate steroids, especially when they don't work. My doctor said if they didn't work, I'd have to have an x-ray like it was the end of the world. Does anyone know what a hip x-ray involves?

Hey Bitter. I can totally relate to the steroids issue. I have terrible back problems and was on steroids for awhile and I gained so much weight so fast that before I realized it I had ballooned to almost 400! They help some people, but do terrible things to others! But, I've had tons of X-rays over the years and none of them ever hurt so I'm not thinking that a hip X-ray should be any big deal for you. Good luck!

You won't be on steroids forever, hon...so just don't worry so much. Of course they make you hungry. All you can do is do your best to make the food you are eating as healthy as possible. I hope your hip gets better soon!

I'm currently taking prednisone, and I feel like I am starving ALL THE TIME!

I gained weight two visits ago and I went Rambo on my food intake. I measured everything like I was living in a life raft and it was all I had left. I counted every ounce of Water, calculated every calorie and entered every nibble of food at fitday.com....the outcome...-11lbs last appointment (thursday before labor day). I got a .5 fill to bring me up to 8.5 cc in my 10cc VG band...I hope the restriction gets better as the week goes on because right now I'm seeing a little, but I can still eat and I am still starving.

Keep your head up, log your intake and shake yer booty with your iPod and you will be fine.

I know. I've had zillions of x-rays and none hurt, but she said the word "x-ray" like it was the clap of doom. I just wondered if they give you dye or something for it, but I don't think they do. Anyway, I'm getting better and may try the shot in the bursa. That's scary but hey, I've had fills with LONG needles, so I think I can take it. Thanks for the help.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
