Question Re: Stage 2 Foods

Recommended Posts

I know that I can have strained Cream of chicken Soup, but what about Tomato Soup or cream of broccoli soup? The cream of broccoli looked like it just had the small pieces of broccoli - if I were to put it in a blender to make sure it was mush, is that acceptable or should I hold off? I don't want to cause damage to my sleeve (I am 6 days out) but I am looking for more variety than my pudding, yogurt and Protein Shakes.

Some say that Tomato Soup is too acidic and will harm the sleeve. That being said, my NUT didn't warn against it and I had creamy Tomato my first 2 days of stage 2 with no setbacks. Instead of pureeing the broccoli Soup, you could try just straining it. You can get small strainers almost everywhere. Putting it through the processor or the blender still runs the risk of solid pieces of food being present.

I wasn't able to eat Tomato due to acid. I strained my Soups and my favorite was cream of potato. My soups had to be low fat. Read your labels because some of the regular cream of soups had the same fat as 98% fat free chicken. So you may have more options than you realize. I tried butternut squash it was pretty good. Good luck!

I will stay away from the Tomato Soup for a while, I never thought about the acidity. I'll also strain the Soups instead of blending then. Thanks all! :)

One more thing: if I had to do canned creamy Soups again, I'd make them with milk instead of Water. I always used to make them with water, but post op I got tired of them quickly.

I was advised to stay away from the cream Soups. I could have cream of chicken if is was the cup of Soup packet instant ones. I could also have Split Pea, Egg Flower, Miso, Hot and Sour, and Tomato. I found all of them I tolerated just fine. Mixing them up makes it easier to not get tired of them.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
