About the only thing I haven't done is watch a you tube video of the surgery! Have you watched? Will you watch? Feelings on the subject. I am sitting at approve...meet with surgeon on Wednesday afternoon for next available date!

Cheers!

I'm an OR nurse, so I've watched in person plenty of times. I think it's a good idea to see what you're going to experience, but if you're one of those people who feels "ignorance is bliss", then don't. I'm one of those people who has to look when someone is drawing my blood, starting an IV, or giving me a shot, but that's just me. I have to know.

I'm a foot & ankle surgeon, so the surgical video really interested me. That being said, most of my family found it disturbing. From a surgical standpoint it requires (obviously) good skills but doesn't appear terribly complex. Do what u feel most comfortable with. Know ur pre op and post op care and trust ur surgeon to do his/her part. Just watch if it interests u!!! I always tell my patients I have the relatively easy part ....fixing stuff....but their part is just as important and more difficult....post op care! Good luck. Let us know if u decide to watch it.

I have watched all the surgeries I could find on Youtube...when I was considering the band I watched all those videos, and now I have seen all the sleeve surgeries too. I am also going to ask my surgeon if I can have a video of my surgery...LOL some people think I am crazy.

I watched two surgical videos. Had to know what would be happening inside of me. It took me a minute or two to be comfortable but then it was fine. You are just watching a procedure, and focused on a small area.... Other areas are all covered and draped.

I've watched the operation numerous times on youtube. Definitely eye opening, but it also gives you an appreciation for what these doctors do. IMHO, some operations seem to go a lot smoother than others, but I am sure it also depends on the patient as well.

I watched this surgical video and found it to be great... It is actual realtime footage of a VSG procedure and MD commentary to break it up.

Take a look if you are interested....

This MD is not my surgeon.

I watched multiple videos and have a picture of my post op stomach. I take a look at it sometimes to remember my commitment. But I love facts and research, and I find the human body fascinating. Should have been a doctor!!

I watched. But like the PP, I like to look! Curiosity! I had wounds drained with a 6 inch 6 gauge needle via ultrasound, had to watch! Wish I had thought to ask my surgeon to video surgery!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
