Futureskinnyperson 29 Posted July 15, 2012 HI Everyone, I had my surgery 10 days ago and since starting with full fluids I am getting terrible heartburn every time I consume anything. It is even happening with Water too sometimes. What can I do? I have started taking a sip of mylanta....and chew on a tums when it gets real bad. Please tell me this is going to stop? Personally I use the Sam's Club version ov Zantac 150. I don't see why the OTC version of Prilosec wouldn't be ok, except maybe not strong enough. Is it oOK to take over the counter stuff like Prilosec etc Help![/quote'] I'm a GI nurse & I was recently sleeved on 6/11 . I would recommend omeprazole ( generic prilosec ) once daily . I take it twice daily & it really helps . You will have to have your PCP prescribe it , but it's one of the best PPI's ( Proton Pump Inhibitors ) you can start on . stacey131 51 Posted July 15, 2012 I like zee rid OTC. I take 2 to get me up to the ex dose of omeprazole plus it has baking soda. So as soon as it hits the stomach it releases a strong base to neutralize the acid. Lastly, I found that Fiber helped me. Maybe psychological...but there is all this acid churning down there. Psyllium taken with less than 8 oz of Water absorbed the acid and pushed it through. Good luck, I was in agony until I started this regimen, but everyone is different.
