Restriction Will Come

Recommended Posts

So I just started solid Proteins today...six weeks out. And let me say...I am finally understanding restriction.

I was super scared because on mushies and sifts I really felt no limits. Yes, I'd get full, but I didn't feel like anything was making me stop. Well today I ate steak and chicken at a hibachi place. And I am full to where I couldn't eat more if I wanted to without getting sick. And I couldn't be happier.

So for those of you who are able to eat anything on mushies...your sleeve help is coming! Protein first!

You aren't kidding!... I was 6 Weeks post op Thursday, but the restriction is no joke. A few bites of anything and I'm full!! If I eat too fast and take that one extra bite before realizing I'm full I definitely feel it!! Good luck with your new sleeve!!

The fullness hits me abut 5-10 minutes later and then I'm feeling really bad! I wish I know exactly how much I can fit without getting that sick feeling.

It is really hard to get used to the very small portions. I average 5-6 small bites of whatever Protein I am eating. I chew chew chew, and try to wait at least a minute or two between bites. After bite 6 I move the food away from me, or at a restaurant I immediately put the rest in a to go box. If I am still hungry fifteen minutes later than I will eat one more bite. This is what has worked for me to prevent they stuffed feeling. Still very hard, mentally I want to eat more which is why I have to get it out of my face so I don't keep grazing.

How long did it take for this fullness to come? I am only 5 days post op but I don't get full. I have started eating mushies already and I don't stay full for long on those either. I am not sure what is going on. I think I might need to go see my NUT and find out what is going on.

How long after you eat are you waiting to drink? Definitely wait the thirty minutes as to not Water down your meals in your stomach and speed up digestion. Second before you know its hunger for sure I would highly recommend drinking and taking some type of antacid. I use tums and it works so I don't need the stronger stuff. I used to have indigestion before surgery and even if you had it to, it doesn't feel the same AT ALL post op and feels a lot like hunger. Also I never felt full on liquids, but my first scoop of egg salad and I definitely felt it. Hope this helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
