Did they give you med cups (like one ounce cups)? Ask for them or a small cup. Sometimes warm decaff tea helps (i like the peppermint decaff tea with truvia).

If you get home and still have issue, maybe use a shot glass to drink out of, taking small sips.

It gets better, I promise you. The first week or so is difficult for some people. I know it seems like a lot of people have no problems, but some people heal differently and no one surgery is alike.

Keep walking and sipping and try to avoid drinking out of a Water bottle for while. It took a while for me (I still would rather drink out of a glass) because I pull too much air in and the air bubbles going down is a bit painful.

Sending healing prayers your way.

The first few days are rough! Hang in there. The drinking got a little easier for me around day five. I'm on day eight now and I still have to be careful not to drink too much at one time, but it's much easier and much less painful. Just take it easy and take care of yourselves!!

@Philly, the more you walk the better you will feel, take your time and try to get up once in a while.

@sexys Sipping out of a one ounce med cup used to take me 3 sips per cup. I did this all day and if I got up to potty at night I would do at least 2 cups before laying back down to try to get in all my Water. I still can only do like 3 ounces of sipping at once time before I need a break.

My hospital sent me home with a big pack of them, my mom bought me plastic shot glasses so she could try to home make me some popsicles in a shot glass lol (I hate artificial sweeteners they cause headaches for me so I only use truvia) It's fun to make the decaff peppermint tea with truvia in them and then put them in my glass to cool off my tea.

I promise you guys each day is better than the day before.

:-( I'm sorry you feel like crap. My surgery was the 11th and it was rough up until today. I decided to trudge through the pain and opted for no morphine coz it was making me sick. Walking and sitting up helped and I really didn't have to walk that much to feel a difference. I'm able to drink my Water and my Protein without any issues it's just finding the right one that doesn't taste like feet that was the challenge.

It will get better. Everyday you're moving forward away from the pain so try to look at it that way and you have all of us! :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
