Those that have sleep apnea..... How long after the surgery did you stop usingyour CPAP?

If you used your CPAP after surgery, did you have any issues with it?

I am 10 days out and I tried sleeping without it last night, but that did notgo so well. The past few mornings after using my CPAP I have woken up feeling like i had a lot of air in my stomach which has made eating more difficult. Has anyone had the same experiance?

Thanks

Bigdogkc - Matt

All I can suggest is make sure your mouth is closed when you sleep. Walk around some before you try to eat and see if that doesn't help some.

I'm 10.5 months out and still using my BiPap machine, but my apnea has improved considerably. My doc tells me that he could take me off the BiPap if I'd consider sleeping with a little oxygen instead. I'll keep the BiPap. LOL

My problem initially was dryness. It was very uncomfortable for me. I use the nasal prongs instead of the mask. I have 35 more pounds to lose. My pulmonary doc says after that they will repeat my test to determine if I can get off CPAP.

My doctor told me not to use the Capp for four weeks after surgery. The first few nights were miserable but after that I never used it again.

After my surgery as I was waking up the nurse said let's hurry up and get you to your room because of your obstructive sleep apnea. I guess the snoring kicked in lol. I love my CPAP because it guarantees me some good sleep.

My primary told me that the pressure will be reduced from 16.0 in about 3 months and I may be off of it completely within a year. Once I make it to twoterville I will request another study because I was 372 when I was diagnosed.

I have the same feeling as you - air in my stomach. I sleep with my mouth open which is why I need the full face mask. Still working on figuring out a solution since I am almost 6 weeks out and still have that issue. My pressure is only 6 so I hope I can get off the machine soon!

I have a friend that was sleeved in January and she didn't use her cpap at all after surgery. That seems dangerous to me. I'm at 6.0 pressure and hoping I'll get off soon after my surgery at the end of the month. I'm a stomach sleeper and soooo tired of waking up with mask marks on my face!!!

I still use my CPAP although my pressures have decreased dramatically. Unfortunately my CPAP is also helping a heart condition so even if I loose enough weight to loose it for the breathing part I will still possibly need it for the heart part. Now I do miss a few days here and there and it doesnt bother me at all- if we go for a long weekend Iwont travel with it eiither.. I havent noticed any problems NOT using it.. but always check with your doctor..

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
