I am posting this link for all those people who are just considering having the lapband (or other types of weight loss surgery).

Your life is worth it, please consider this....

http://www.emediawire.com/releases/2006/8/emw428589.htm

Thanks for posting.

The only problem I have with the article, is that its not completely accurate, it doesn't give the stats on the patients, what co-morbidities did they have? Age, Weight? And the ones who conducted the study were doctors but doctors of what?

I am sorry to be a bummer, but this type of article is exactly the type I have studied in college --its not scholarly. Funny on the timing, I am going to print this article for my statistics professor -she is a clinical psychologist...she'll love it.

I can tell that I need the surgery, even before reading any articles.

I'm tired

My legs/ankles/feet hurt from the weight

my back is killing me and gets worse with each extra pound

clothes are hard to find that don't look either like Muu Muu's or tents

double chin is ugly, the triple chin under that is even uglier!

I can tell that others are looking at me when I"m out eating, thinking that I should be home with duct tape over my mouth than out in public stuffing myself

No energy to play with my grandkids

And that's just the beginning of a long list! Hopefully I'll be able to get the money for Lapband in a few months.

:cry awwwww

I know how you feel. Yes we are the best resource when it comes to decision about lapbanding or any weightloss surgery for that matter. We know how we feel and what we need. I hope you get your surgery soon!!!

I didn't mean my last post to come out harsh, its just that we should not believe everything we read (my mom is a big offender of this--I read blah blah blah..it takes me a half an hour to calm her down..lol) A lot of what we read on the internet isn't based on fact...sad really.

I was talking to my brother yesterday who is a family practice physician and also does hospice. Since he lives in a retirement community most of his patients are over 50 years old. I asked him how many of his patients over the age of 60 are at least 100 lbs overweight. His reply was "1" that he recalled but they did not live that long. Most people that old suffer to much for diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesteral.. which is just to much work for your heart.

I can understand how its so easy to sway stats in your favor by not giving all the facts in any report. But the issue here is... Is bariatric surgery worth the risk to extend your life?

If you are somebody just considering having a lapband proceedure (or other type of weight loss surgery) and considering the risk factors invovled or complications, its also worth considering the result of not having surgery.

I am sure we have all tried loosing weight on your own... without surgery, and very few succeed and keep off the weight. I think we call agree that any diet is just a roller coaster ride.

I feel the lapband is a great tool and does not work on its own without following the rules (but its easier than anything else I ever tried). I lost 60 lbs in 5 months on my first lapband before it started leaking... but then gained it all back. Now I just got rebanded and confident i will loose it and keep it off.

Thanks for your information. Most of us here researched lap banding before we came here. Good Luck with your rebanding!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
