B-12 Shots

Recommended Posts

Friday night I went with my sister to a Weightloss Surgery seminar. The speaking surgeon performs both the RnY and lap-band. He said that he recommends all of his patients take extra Calcium tablets and B-12 injections - the B-12 injections increase metobolism (energy).

Just wondering if any of us are getting these injections?!

Since I am -so tired- all of the time, I was interested in getting a B-12 shot, just didnt know if it helps or not!

This is the first I've heard of B-12 shots. I have been told I have to take Calcium supplements though. Gosh, the B-12 shots sound like a great idea. The lack of energy and downish mood have been the reason I've gotten off of diets in the past.

Ya, B12 is awesome for energy. I take a powdered B12 that I get from a friend in Wisconsin, it really works. She has powdered Calcium that I take too. Let me know if you want to know more and I'll PM you her info.

My husband had RNY and I give him B12 once per month. His is more for deficiency since RNY is malabsorptive. He can tell if we forget!! He has way more engery than I do there is probably something to it!!

I was thinking about ordering the B12 patch. It's absorbed just like the shots and it's about $25 for a month's supply. Anyone heard of this or tried it? I figure for $25 I can check it out.

I get a B12 weekly, but not because of WLS. I have prenicious anema and unable t absorb B12. Typically it is for energy. I have heard that there is an over the counter absorbing B12 that you can now get. Check out Walmart. I think you put it under your tongue.

I've read a couple of studies that show that the sub lingual B12 is just as effective as the shots. It makes me wonder why they aren't used more, then. Maybe it's a way to get more office visits in (and paid for).

My nutritionist recommended a sublingual B-12. I buy the liquid B complex at GNC. It seems to taste the best to me.

I guess B12 is hard to absorb. I never noticed anything from it before I started the powdered kind. Never heard of the under the tongue stuff...sounds cool!

Some people, like me, can't take it orally. My body doesn't absorb it. It does give you energy. Take it at night, if possible, because sometimes it causes a side effect. I don't get a shot and then eat, if you get my drift. I like to take mine before bedtime and the next day or two the energy kicks in. My hubby gives me the shots and a months supply costs $4.50. Cheap enough.

Have you had your Iron levels checked? Iron saturation and ferritin levels are measured to assess for this condition. It would explain your tiredness.

sublingual is different from oral, sublingual absorbs direct into the blood stream through the mucus membrane from the mouth, primarily into the large vein under the tongue. it's as effective as shots as it goes directly into the bloodstream and bypasses the stomach/digestive system.

I also do the b-12 sublingual. My doc does a test every 3 months for it. I have never been low, he says it's because of the sublingual B-12 complex that I take. I get it at wal-mart for about $6 for a months supply. It taste sorta tart but it's doable. If I miss a dose I can tell, I am tired and a bit sluggish. I take it every morning before Breakfast. If I take it at night I am restless, and can't sleep. ~Mandy
