Thought I would start a thread for the august sleevers going to Dr. A. I hope that we can all share our experiences.

I know the August sleeve thread is a lot busier, but it would be great for the Dr. A folks to come here as well. I will give a nudge over there.

Thanks, sweetsusie! I am getting so excited and wish it was here already. I'm sure I will have more questions!  did you do a preop diet? Dr. A said I don't have to but I've been gaining a few pounds since I scheduled surgery. Last meal syndrome, I think, even though I'm a month out. Need to get it under control.

dooter55,

You look like you are doing great on your prep "diet". I keep gaining. I have gained about 30 lbs. in the last two years, after going through menopause at 41! I am trying to do a modified pre-op diet prior to my required one, but I keep gaining. HELP! What is your secret? Any advice would be great.

Thanks for the invite Mom. Sorry if it took awhile to get over here, I kinda slept in today. Thanks Dooter for starting the thread. The other August Thread is great but it is very long if you are just starting out.

I am currently on my liquid pre-op diet now. I was to officially start on the 23rd but I figured few extra days would not kill me. And they haven't so far even though I am only on day 2 this has been a piece of cake for me. I did mess up yesterday when I added banana to skim milk and blended. NO fruit ALLOWED!!

I am scheduled for surgery with Dr. Alvarez on August 6th.

And you can call me Jennifer or Jenn for short if you don't want to call me Storm.

Hi. Ladies.

Surgery is scheduled for Aug. 2 with Dr. A.

My name is Joyce. I am from Missouri. My husband, Mark, is my traveling companion and we will fly from Kansas City to San Antonio and get a ride from Rosie to Eagle Pass. Glad that you mentioned tipping, as I would not have thought about that. I will make up some thank you cards before we head out for surgery.

I started my pre-op a couple of days back but I have eaten something for dinner the past 2 nights. I am only required a 10 day all liquids diet, so I figure that replacing most meals with liquids or a Protein Shake for extra days can't hurt. Starting the 23, I am total liquids. I ate yogurt last night only to check later and it is not on the list for pre-op. I bought some thinking that is was OK. I have been doing well so far though. The hunger is not bad at all.

I look forward to chatting with each of you as we prepare and get past the surgery.

I believe this is going to be the best thing that I could ever do for myself.

Hey everybody, hope u r all well. I just came home from work and I'm tired. I've been lacking on energy lately and even though it's normal, I can't wait for it to pass. I've had the worst reflux today and started my cycle on top of that, ugh it sucks , lol. I've lost 20 pounds and am really happy , I can't wait to get to mushies next week. I hope everyone is well, just some advice, this pre and post liquid is the worst part, after that just follow the rules and you will all do great! Take care, Susie.

Hi, Susie,

Poor girl! I know it has to be exhausting to be working and feel worn out. Our bodies just want us to rest while we heal. Hope that the reflux gets better quickly. What does Dr. A have you taking for that? How much longer are you on clears? have you moved on to the next phase? It has to be better once we introduce smooshy foods, At least the stomach has something to process.

I hope that you have a really good weekend. Try to rest some if you can B)

Thanks for the update Susie. I've been meaning to message and check on ya again, but I seem to have my hours screwed up. I try to wait for hubby but it plays with my sleep schedule at times. Glad to hear you are doing so well. I hope your fatigue disappears real soon. Keep up all your great work!!

Hey Joyce, right now I'm on full liquids, puréed Soups and shakes and I can even have egg custard according to dr. A, he gave me a reflux sublingual pill that he says is like Zantac, but I feel like it just won't go away. I wish I coulda taken more days off but I'm really falling behind on everything now. I hope u have a great weekend too, as always I'm here of anyone needs me, just been busy.

Susie,

I have read that some people take liquid Gaviscon, it might be worth a try. Reflux is painful!

Just rest as much as possible, it will get better. Do you sleep in a recliner or with pillows to hold you more upright?

I know some have said that helps too.

Hugs to you,

Well I got email back from Susan this evening. It appears there is only one other person sharing my date with Dr. Alvarez.. She did give me her email, what are your thoughts about contacting her? Would it be viewed as rude? Ideas on how to break off into a conversation in an email to someone you don't know but that have so much in common with? UGH, i hate being the shy person sometimes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
