So my surgeon is trying to convince me that gastric bypass would be best for me because of my diabetes! & that he knows with GB it will go away. I have done all my research on Gs and that's what I want to stick with!! Has this ever come up with ur surgeon?

No, my surgeon gave me the choice for surgery and it was my decision which one to have. I did my research between the bypass, rny and sleeve. After reading about the absorbtion issues, vit dificiencies, night blindness, etc with the bypass. I choose the sleeve, I can eat what I want only in small amounts.

Right! I told him I don't think I could prepare myself for dumping, memory lost, and all the other high risk from not taking vitiamins. plus from reading here it's plenty of people who had! Diabetes before the sleeve. I'm sticking with the sleeve as I have already prepared myself for it.

It makes me question a surgeon when they push one surgery over another. Is he/she as confident in his/her ability to do the sleeve as another surgery? If both surgeries are safe for you, it should be your decision.

It's my understand that VSG resolves diabetes. Remember, you can also convert a sleeve into a bypass.

Butterbean, I was thinking the same thing. However I have several coworkers sleeve he has done. I was also thinking he want to do the gb because it's more money. Anyway I'm sticking with the sleeve

He also said that the sleeve would go down hill like the Lap band., In a few years and that surgeons like doing the sleeve because it's easy.

Second opinion! Maybe start a thread here and find out who others saw in Houston?

That is an subjective opinion not objective scientific information. He is trying to manipulate your insecurity about the sleeve IMO.

When I started my weight loss again in 2008, the dietician had to go over all my options and gave RNY or band but went on to describe issues with both. It wasn't until 2012 (after a long break for my twin pregnancy) that she brought up sleeve and said this is a tool! And she said it suited me, someone who eats well and exercises and still has a weight problem.

And-- weightloss will increase the chances of your diabetes resolving. Regardless of method. Healthy eating, moving your body and weightloss.

So the sleeve or RNY or band-- lose weight and have reduced comorbidities!

Yes. I think a lot of surgeons push the gb because it's the gold standard. My doctor pushed it also and I was just admimant that I wanted the vsg. Be firm, it's your body and your decision.

I am so afraid of gastric bypass! Everyone I KNOW has ballooned back up to their pre surgery sizes, yet still deal with the mal-absorbtion and other issues. One person who hasn't ballooned back up looks ill with sunken in eyes, Hair loss and just looks aged. Lastly, one of my neighbors died from sepsis after gb so while I am aware of the risk in them all my cognitive association won't even let me consider gastric bypass.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
