Yes, take the stool softeners but don't keep taking them and get reliant on them, you could end up really messing yourself up.

I've taken the Mirilax for years, it works OK but I too have started taking chia seeds and the results are much, much better, a little bit more gassy but more regular.

Miralax takes several doses to get anything moving. For relief within a day use milk of magnesia.

I have never used the pills post op. Milk of Magnesia works great for me.

If its really bad - you can use suppositories. Then try Fibercon like 1x a day. I asked my surgeon if I could incorporate flaxseed meal into my food - he said ok. I use the flaxseed in my eggs, yogurt, soups...
