How far out are you? I used Milk of Magnesia with wonderful results ... that is what I would recommend.

Stool softeners were ok with my dr. They were small enough to swallow.

I've had a long problem with Constipation. I am taking chia seeds and the results are wonderful. My nutritionist turned me on to them. Mix them in the morning with my daily yogurt. Both surgeon and nut says milk of magnesia as a good standby. Good luck.

I was prescribed liquid colace....a truly vile taste. I use cherry MoM. It doesn't taste great, but it does work.

In Australia I use actilax which is a lactulose Syrup (liquid) ask at your pharmacy to see if there is an equivalent. Draws Water into the large bowel to soften stool.

Eat Taco Bell. It is a natural laxative. Trust me, i ate some last night, within an hour, I was in my second office!

Man, before the surgery Taco Bell worked well. I'd hate to think what the effects would be now!

My Iron pills make me constipated so I now take a colace pill to accompany them. Seems to work well for me. MOM, for me, can be fierce and unforgiving if you aren't home!

I would love to try this. how much do you use and where do you buy them?

my nutrionist said any health food store should have the chia seeds. however the one I stopped into said they had never heard of them. So I went on line and found a good supply and service by nut.com.

I started with a half a tablespoon a day for a week then moved up to 1 tablespoon a day in my yogurt. Wierd sensation in the mouth. Makes my yogurt a bit crunchy but I have come to enjoy it. BTW the chia seeds have no taste so mixed in pudding and applesauce works as well. Nut.com also has alternative recipes for chia seeds.

Hope this helps!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
