Good Morning all.

I was wondering for the past two month my doctor has found that my Iron is low I'm post-op and now i'm afraid that my surgeon will not preform the surgery with my iron so low.

did anyone post-op have anemia before going into surgery if so did you have any complications??

Thanx for the response.

I'm a little confused. Where you diagnosed as anemic pre-opt? Are you taking any Iron supplements? When I am anemic, I take an iron supplement that helps get me out of being anemic. I myself will look at the color of my gums and if the color is a pale pink, then I start taking iron supplements. :) Sorry I don't have an answer about this, but perhaps you can google it? That's where I find a lot of information. :)

Yes, I was quite anemic before surgery. Because it is laparoscopic I was told I would lose so little blood it wouldn't be problematic. I had no complications. I have read that this surgery is commonly performed on anemic patients.

If you like liver, start eating it. Calf liver with onions and cabbage will help boost up your Iron. Also milk thistle tea is good to help cleanse your own liver prior to surgery.

My blood work the day of surgery showed I was anemic and I still had the surgery. Just keep with the iron supplements and add a multi Vitamin with extra iron if you aren't taking one.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
