Help! Could Eat/drink More Than Now, 4 Days Out

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved Monday morning. That day I was surprised I could drink/eat comfortably. Yesterday, although 3 days out, I found it very uncomfortable to eat/drink. I could feel even small drinks like a ton of bricks in the pit of my stomach. What is going on???!!!!

I wasn't allowed to drink the first day of surgery, the 2nd I had a leak test and it was really rough for a while. I am 5 weeks and just started pureed food and it's rough again.

I noticed drinking out of a Water bottle or regular glass at first was hard, it made me take bigger sips and I also got a lot of air bubbles. Ask for a med cup or if you are home, use a shot glass, pour your Water into the shot glass and take small sips from there. As far as eating, I had an issue with it, for the first week I lived off decaff peppermint tea and Isopure and it was rough and I poured EVERYTHING into a one ounce med cup to sip out of. I was able to get a bite or two of sugar - free Jello down.

I just started pureed foods and I'm 5 weeks out and I'm struggling because I went from full liquids for 5 weeks to the pureed and if it's not moist enough it's rough.

Not sure what you are "eating" at this point, is it just sherbet and Jello?

Yes what do you mean "eat" there should be no solid foods this early - or pureed, or even thick liquids. That is, frankly, regardless of anything a doctor says...

Maybe you have swelling now that wasn't present at the time of your surgery. I was only allowed clear liquida and Protein shakes at 4 days out and sipping from a straw helped even though I was told not to use a straw. I am thinking that recommendation is changing. Anyway ..my dietitian had told me to focus on getting in fluids over Protein the first weeks around 32 oz and I was able to get close. Also..I noticed warm fluids worked better than cold when going down and not sitting like bricks in your stomach. The first two weeks for me were warm teas of different flavoringa because Water didn't go down..neither did crystal light..chicken broth and warm tea..that's what I got ..but I eventually was able to drink Water especially ice cold a little later on..try room temp or wan fluids and see if it helps! Go luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
