mufasas-mom 170 Posted July 13, 2012 thought i saw somewhere that said there were 3 rows of sutures after they cut. does anyone know if this is right? also after the staples are there is it safe to have a mri down the road? sorry if these seem like silly questions. Heyher 581 Posted July 13, 2012 I have mri's every year and I have some medical screws and buttons in my knee. It has never caused problems with the MRI. But with any forgin metal object you need to let the doctor and also the MRI tech prior to the scan.
Heyher 581 Posted July 13, 2012 And not silly questions. :-) I'm sure there are quite a few that wonder the same thing. Only reason I know is because I demolished my knee and had it rebuilt. Had an MRI not too long after, and had to tell them. Not the best way to learn that little tidbit. But it is what it is.
Pre-OpLoser619 36 Posted July 13, 2012 As far as I know there is a zipper effect of staples. One row that closes your new stomach and one row that closes the old stomach that they remove. Sometimes I've heard of surgeons also suturing over the staples that remain just for extra stability to the closure.
mufasas-mom 170 Posted July 13, 2012 I will add that to my list of questions for the surgeon - my list is almost 2 pages already!!!
TinkerToyz 45 Posted July 13, 2012 The staples are titanium and are MRI safe.
mufasas-mom 170 Posted July 13, 2012 so - there is actually multiple rows of sutures (either staples, or normal sutures or maybe combo, pending of surgeron). that makes me feel SO much better.
Heyher 581 Posted July 13, 2012 The staples are titanium and are MRI safe. With MS I get an MRI every year. Not what I call fun times.... LoL!!! I have to tell the same office every year that I have screws in my knee.... Might be a liability thing, idk. But they always ask. Like I'll have the screws holding my knee together taken out. I wish. LoL!!! They don't cause any problems with the MRI, but you still have to tell them every time.... NOTE IT ON MY CHART PROPLE!! LoL!!!!!
