I have mri's every year and I have some medical screws and buttons in my knee. It has never caused problems with the MRI. But with any forgin metal object you need to let the doctor and also the MRI tech prior to the scan.

And not silly questions. :-) I'm sure there are quite a few that wonder the same thing.

Only reason I know is because I demolished my knee and had it rebuilt. Had an MRI not too long after, and had to tell them.

Not the best way to learn that little tidbit. But it is what it is.

As far as I know there is a zipper effect of staples. One row that closes your new stomach and one row that closes the old stomach that they remove. Sometimes I've heard of surgeons also suturing over the staples that remain just for extra stability to the closure.

so - there is actually multiple rows of sutures (either staples, or normal sutures or maybe combo, pending of surgeron). that makes me feel SO much better.

The staples are titanium and are MRI safe.

With MS I get an MRI every year. Not what I call fun times.... LoL!!!

I have to tell the same office every year that I have screws in my knee.... Might be a liability thing, idk. But they always ask. Like I'll have the screws holding my knee together taken out. I wish. LoL!!! They don't cause any problems with the MRI, but you still have to tell them every time....

NOTE IT ON MY CHART PROPLE!! LoL!!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
