Teachers? Where Are The Teachers?

Recommended Posts

I am a teacher outside of Philadelphia. I teach 3rd grade in a public elementary school. I had my surgery on June 20th. I did not tell anyone at school that I was having the surgery, and I will go back a changed person. Who else is in this position? Who else is a teacher? What and where do you teach?

I teach 2nd grade here in Knoxville; I did not tell anyone until I got insurance approval and then I told close friends and my boss. I've lost 31 pounds since most of my friends have seen me and none of my past students have seen me yet; I'm excited.

Fellow 3rd grade teacher here! I teach in San Antonio, Texas. I don't really care who knows I had surgery so I did tell people before we left for the summer. A lot of my coworkers have sent texts with well wishes and phone calls. There are a few other teachers in my school that have already had surgery. I excited to go back hopefully it will be a noticeable change! Plus packing lunch will be a breeze. Lol

2nd grade Philly teacher here! We've talked here before.

I told a few teachers so I'm sure the whole school will know when I return 7 weeks after getting it done. Monday's the big day!

Funny, 2 of my girls are retained for Sept., they'll be shocked as I disappear before their eyes all next year.

I teach pre-k in Texas! I had my surgery in March '11. Everyone on my campus knows I had surgery. Actually, many on our staff have had some type of WLS. I work with an incredible and encouraging group of people. They are part of my extended family.

Hi! I teach SDC-LH (special day class, learning handicapped), grade 6 in California. I was sleeved March 12th. I told my prinicipal, the secretary, and my grade level that I had the sleeve done. Staff started noticing by the end of May. They just looked at me with curiosity, but no one asked or said a thing to me. Occasionally teachers would try to ask my classroom aide. She was fantastic about it. However, it was getting a tad awkward. I was thankful for the summer break, but I have lost inches and pounds (thankfully). I'm sort of dreading going back, but I know the newness of me being smaller will fizzle out eventually.

I didn't choose to tell everyone about my choice to have the sleeve. The people that do know used to watch what I would eat for lunch or I received a couple comments along the lines of, "Just don't do what so and so did. They had surgery and gained it all back!" I don't need advice from someone who has never been there and I realize that I'm hypersensitive to being watched anyways.

Former teacher here! I taught 5th grade last year, this year I got a position as psychometrist. I've been pretty open about my surgery. I was hoping to get my surgery in June so I had all summer to loose, but I'm scheduled for July 27. I hate that my rapid weight loss phase will be during the beginning of school... I travel to different schools now and I was hoping for better "first impressions."

Hi. I'm a first grade teacher at a private school in Maryland. I've only told 1 of the teachers who is a very dear friend. I will have my surgery this Wednesday. I figure I'll tell if I'm asked and no one will ask. It's a very small school, so if 1 person knows everyone will (teachers and parents).

5th Grade teacher about 6.5 months post surgery. I told no one at work and had it done over the Christmas break. Without a doubt the significant weight loss is noticeable. I just tell them diet and exercise (true). I am open about high Protein because they see me with shakes all the time, but generally kick out the vibe that I don't want to talk about it.

HI! I teach 7th grade Language Arts in California. I won't be sleeved until November, but I've already told five co-workers (two of whom are my roommates).

I will tell my principal and that is all. I'm getting sleeved over Thanksgiving break (we get a week off) and will take off the week after. I've already begun a high Protein low carb diet with exercise so I'll have already lost weight when school starts back up next month.

I don't plan on telling any of my students... possibly a while after the surgery if they ask about the weight loss. I guess I'll decide when that time comes :)

I'm planning on telling everyone I had gallbladder surgery (true), and that I was sick due to that, hence the weight loss. "I thought I might as well keep the weight loss going..."

Hello everyone! I'm a high English teacher in Detroit and was sleeved June 12th. I missed the last week of school and my 9th graders badgered me to why I wouldn't be there. My admin team and close teacher friends know and I've seen them a couple times since. Very encouraging. We're having a high turnover of staff this year so it won't be such a big shock. The kids....well you teenagers are self absorbed so the may or may not notice in the fall lol.

I'm a high school math teacher in Dayton, Ohio. I teach at an online school so there's only 6 of us who work at my location together. The only person who knows resigned. A few of the teachers who work from home know about it but no one in my direct office. I planned to tell one of them but that didn't happen before school got out. (How do you bring that up?)

We have professional development about 6-8 times a year where I will see all of my friends, team members, and administrators. I'm kind of nervous for our convocation in a month because of all of the attention I'm afraid I'll get. I lost 65 pounds pre-op (surgery 6/25) and hoped people would notice so it wouldn't be such a shock in August but that didn't happen.

I did tell a few people I was having surgery over the summer but didn't give any details so we will see if they ask!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
