First Business Trip Post-Op...ugh

Recommended Posts

I am really glad to hear you pulled this off 7 days after surgery.

I am really preoccupied with life on the road post sleeve (hence my handle). I really don't know how I am going to function. People tend to that forget this isn't just about making good food choices' date=' it is also about accomplishing what your company sent you there to do (sometimes at a cost of 20K). Sitting in a corner licking a spoonful of hummus with a glass of Water really isn't going to get it done. Sitting in a hotel room mixing shakes doesn't deliver the goods either.

I managed to schedule 5 weeks at home post-surgery before heading to Asia. Then I do London twice, Dubai, and Jordan. That gets me to October when things pick up.

Please share any tips you pick up. 6 months out I can see myself fluffing my way through a dinner meeting, or speaking at a formal Chinese banquet. . Until that time I am really nervous.

Glad to see someone else facing similar challenges.

I'll keep you posted! My next one is 13 days on south Africa, right about the 12-week post op mark. Only 4 days are work, the rest are fun...hoping I can handle it! I think my problem with the first trip is that outside of the meetings I was alone with nothing to do and obsessing about food. For my next trip I'll be with people and should have plenty to keep me busy.

If you have never been to Africa, please be extremely careful of the food and Water. South Africa is the best part of the continent, but I still wouldn't want to go through food or water-borne illness with a fresh sleeve. I never leave home without a supply of Cipro. It is a miracle drug for that. Your Doctor should write a prescription for you if they know anything about travel in the developing world.

I hope you get to Cape Town. One of the most beautiful places on earth.

Thanks, BizTraveller. First time to SA, but def not first time to developing country (or Africa for that matter). I've got my food and Water skills down pretty well...cut my teeth on successive trips to India years back :) but will be a new dimension to have those restrictions + the sleeve!

Great post ladies!

I find business travel, conferences, and the evening socials on the agendas require a lot of advance preparation on my part.

One of the tools that really helps is packing BariWare along with my own Water bottle and travel mug.

I add unflavoured Protein powder to everything especially organic herbal tea and sip on it throughout the day either warm or let it cool in advance and add ice for a pick me up. I don't use artificial sweeteners, but a tablespoon of cranberry or grape juice gives it a refreshing kick.

I use a set of travel organizers from Coast Mountain Sports, that keep all of my supplements, Protein Powder and what not organized and ready for travel :0)

I have tried many natural unflavored Protein powders and the one I use is absolutely incredible. I put it in everything.

I purchase it online at canadianprotein.com

It is 100%pure whey Protein isolate.

1 scoop is:

121 calories

1 gram of fat

1 gram of carbohydrates

1 gram of sugar

27 grams of protein

You can order bulk in a big box, or in the 2 or 5 pound bags.

Every morning I start my day by putting 1 scoop in my coffee cup with a tablespoon of Benefiber, a teaspoon of cinnamon and 1/4 cup of Silk True Almond unsweetened, mix it up with a spoon until it is creamy, then I add my Decaf. coffee and stir again, it dissolves completely and adds no flavor, just low carb, low fat, low sugar, high protein!

My surgeon allows Benefibre and 1 cup of coffee per day, so make sure you check with your Surgeon first as all of our plans are unique to each of us.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
