On June 5th my surgeons office said it was now time to submit to my insurance for authorization . It's now mid July and my primary still has not sent my needed records.

End of June he had me come in so we could fill out surgeon forms together , and that is the only thing he has sent. They need the last six months of records. The girl in his office told the surgeons office, "if it's in his basket, he'll get to it when he gets to it". Can you believe it.?

Meanwhile although my pcp more than doubled my lantus, and now has me shooting up humalog three times a day , my a1c is still climbing and has gone from 5.7 to 10.4 in the last year, my body is covered in injection bruises, I'm hot and cranky, and I'm scared. Sure I want to be thin and look good, but what I really want is to avoid kidney damage, heart damage, nerve damage. I want a decent quality of life and a healthy measure of self esteem.

I feel stuck in the middle of two dr offices who are supposed to know what they're doing. I've done my homework, jumped through the hoops. I want this to go to the insurance company. And I realize that it may not be approved this time, but at least I can go on from there. Right now I'm stuck on the phone encouraging people to do their jobs. Arrrrrgh!

I am so sorry to hear that. The squeaky wheel gets the oil, so it is now time for you to start sqeaking! You need to start haunting the PCP's office. Keep calling until you get action. Be nice, but firm. Ask to speak to his nurse or medical assistant. Often they can help you move things through the office. Keep following up until everything gets OUT OF HIS BASKET and over to the surgeon's office or insurance company. That is an unacceptable amount of time to have to wait! Is there a bariatric coordinator who can help you with all this? I had someone from the surgeon's office who coordinated all the forms and she helped me get the final piece of info we needed from my PCP. It will all work out, but I know it is so frustrating. You have done everthing on your end and to have to wait for someone holding up the works is really tough to take. I will keep you in my prayers that everything is resolved quickly and the insurance approves the FIRST TIME!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
