WLJourneyJ 89 Posted July 12, 2012 Well. Made it through surgery. Last night was a wtf did I do to myself night. A lot of pain groggy etc. I'm feeling better this am. Did a lap around the floor. I have my blow into it to make ball thing. But I can't get the balls to move. And have a hard time getting a deep breath is this normal?
Jennifer SoFla 85 Posted July 12, 2012 Well suck don't blow. Or the calls won't move.... But yes its normal, just keep trying. It hurts when you suck in hard but that's the point. To.make sure Fluid doesn't build up in your lungs. Good luck!
Jennifer SoFla 85 Posted July 12, 2012 Balls* not calls. But either way I tried blowing into mine too, and actually told the nurse mine was broken. lol 1 enigmachik reacted to this
TinaMari 75 Posted July 12, 2012 I'm pre-op so I can't answer your question. But, did you take any meds for the pain?
lollyfidy1965 402 Posted July 12, 2012 Yep...it's "inspiratory"....you suck in through it, not blow out.
MzPecanBrown 86 Posted July 12, 2012 It's a spirometer. Definitely suck and not blow. It was hard for me those first few days, but it's necessary to avoid possible pneumonia. Congrats on being sleeved! I wish a speedy recovery to you. Sent from my iPhone using VST

Feels like I can't really breathe deeply. The only pain u have is gas pains starting. I'm waiting on swallow study results so I can start sipping !!
SkinnySmurf 3 Posted July 12, 2012 That's pain "I" have.
Pennie 66 Posted July 12, 2012 Oh, yeah! The incentive spirometer! I forgot about that little torture device. LOL! It does get easier, the further out you are from surgery. I could barely get that ball up when I was just a day out. When I was sent home from the hospital, the instructions were to use it every single hour. I hated it, but I did it. It actually turned out to be really satisfying to see the improvement and be able to quantify it. Congrats on your sleeve!!!
Stacy P 7 Posted July 12, 2012 It makes you feel really inadaquate at first, but keep trying it's important to improve your lung function.
GivingItMyAll 168 Posted July 12, 2012 The nurse told me to do 10 breaths in a row, was about to pass out. Doc came in and said to do 2-3 at a time, 10 over the hour, or I'll hyperventilate. So space out your sucks. Sent from my iPad using VST
