Hello everyone

I am 10 weeks out from surgery. Had a very rough start for the first couple of weeks. I am still having a lot of trouble with throwing up. I think I might be eating to much. At 10 weeks out about how much food should I be able to eat? 1/4 cup 1/2 cup. I know each person is different but just trying to get a general idea.

Any help would be greatly appreciated : )

I did a little test on my sleeve. I took a 6 ounce container of yogurt and ate till I was full. I could hold 5 ounces so I measure my food and make sure it weighs less than 5 ounces. I know this doesn't apply to all food because some food is dense and it's more about volume than weight but it gives me a good idea..and when I follow it, I never overstuff myself. Hope this helps.

I am 8 weeks out. I eat an egg for Breakfast, and up to an ounce and a half of meat for other meals. Each person seems to progress at their own rate. I also have part of a Protein Shake twice daily. It works for me. Good luck!

My NUT showed me a 5 ounce measuring glass and said that I should get used to the idea of that amount (I'm pre-op), and that I'd plan to have four meals that size each day. 3oz Protein, 2oz veg. I've read some people have signs it is time to stop, like a runny nose. Anything like that happen to you... before you get sick?

I find that if I portion my food out by measuring it and putting it in a dessert size plate or bowl, I do really good. I try and take a few minutes in between bites to assess where I am in being full. If I get a runny nose, burp, or sneeze then I know that I'm done eating. I usually try to eat small portions so that I don't stretch out my sleeve. It works for me. :) Let your stomach tell you when it's full by listening and not getting caught up with the notion I have to eat everything in my plate. I allow myself to throw food away now and don't feel guilty at all. :)

I'm 3 weeks post-op, and got advanced to soft/puréed/ground foods yesterday. I was told to start with 1oz of lean Protein (that's 1/4 cup), 6 times a day, and work up to 2-3 oz 3-4 times a day. I'm enjoying tuna salad, but it takes me nearly an hour to eat 1/4 cup...and that leaves me feeling full for several hours.

MARY

hi there

congrats on being 10 weeks out - sorry you've had difficulty, vomitting etc. - hope you are on the mend

do you have a NUT?

from the beginning my NUT told me to measure my 1/3 cup of food according to VOLUME in a regular measuring cup, all of a sudden i'm hearing more about people being told to use ounce, 3, 4 oz etc., that doesn't show me how much you are filling your sleeve with

i thuoght you are supposed to eat what the sleeve will allow you - in volume, ie /not by oz. ? Am i mistaken. one oz of peanuts i would eat, would be differnt than eating 1 oz of bricks. - did i say that right?

btw my NUT responds daily to all emails - i'll send her an email now maybe she can help me

confused

Thanks for everyones help. This sleeve thing is something else. LOL...I had a lapband and when I ate to much or to fast it would come right back up (not even like really throwing up, it just comes back up) and that is what the sleeve is doing to me. so I am thinking I am eating to fast and to much. I can eat and bend over to put clothes in the dryer and the food will just come back up. Not all the time but a lot of the time.

I had a very very rough start on this journey. In the first 4 weeks of having the sleeve. I was sent for fluids one time, held in the hospital an extra day after my surgery and put in the hospital 2 more times and had another surgery where they found a piece of scar tissue and after removing that I have seem to be doing better but it has been a very slow process. I just want to be able to eat and keep things down so I dont end up in the hospital again : (

I am able to eat oatmeal and shrimp and they always stay down : ) I just got through eating lunch which I had 5 medium shrimp with cocktail sauce. I tried to eat a scrambled egg for breakfast and it made me sick. So I guess it is just a learning process that will take me time

Thanks everyone for your support

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
