How was your pain level after surgery? I know everyone is different but just some insight on your post-op surgery experience would be helpful.

I stopped all pain meds 24 hours after surgery, while I was still in the hospital. I was fairly active before surgery and walked from the time they let me out if bed. I had some "pulling" sensations (which the doc said was normal), a little discomfort getting in and out of bed, but no real pain. Everyone is different, so it's hard to say how you will feel after. I expected the worse, had my parents take care of my daughter for 3 days and that was totally unnecessary. I also had some one lined up to come and help me with laundry, but was able to do it myself (light loads) by day 4.

in my case, i think i was lucky.

i wasn't in any pain during the day except when i tried to lay down to rest. Each day i felt better day,

my stiches hurt for a few days :( but i was sleeping like a baby as the stiches pain was subsiding

sleeping at night wasn't the greatest feeling. So i did have a little pain then, but never needed any pain meds, my pain in other words was never really that bad

good luck on pending WLS

I am a fairly big baby and I am a little nervous. I have heard that it is not the pain that gets you but the nausea

I was only nauseated right out of surgery, but I was so doped up I hardly remember it. I remember asking for medicine for it, but my eyes were closed and it didn't feel like it lasted long at all.

Thanks everyone!!

I've heard that the nausea can be bad. I asked my dr about it and he gave me a nausea patch to put on the evening before surgery to help. For those that are still pre-op, you might want to to ask. I just want to minimize my chance of vomiting...especially with my new tummy :-)

5 more days until the big day!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
