Just wondering if anyone has a good recommendation for a brand of belly (abdominal) binder.< /p>

Have seen many that say they are helpful post-op but don't know which one is best.

Hey! 15 days post op here with double hernia repairs as well. No way I would bind my abdomin right now! I have enough trouble getting food down without any pressure garments.

A few weeks done the track maybe?

Thanks...many had stated that it provided support to help with incision and pain when getting out of bed.

Just like getting others opinions.

Hope your recovery is going well!!!

I used my daughter's pillow pet when getting I and out of bed. Only used it for less than a week, then I was okay getting up on my own.

Sent from my iPad using VST

I didn't use any binder until I had some nerve pain around one of my incisions about a month out. Otherwise, I don't know that I would have been to keen on a binder before that. I just used my daughter's mini Pillow Pet, too - ironically, it's a pig. :)

My friend wore one for 6 weeks post op. she said she really noticed when she wasn't wearing it, she would feel things pull more when she was moving.

I'm still pre op but will borrow hers to try out after my surgery.

I used a compression garment the second two weeks and it did really help my discomfort while moving around. I did not wear it all day, just when I was active. It's worth a try. I'm going to start wearing it again when I return to work next week because it is supposed to help lose belly fat while shaping the area at the same time. Good luck with you!

Any Shapewear will work.

You can get compression tanks (Flexees) at both Walmart, Target, etc

You can also get undergarment shapewear like girdles & such at most department stores. Most of us have Spanx lying around and they work just as well.

I would highly recomend some belly support, especially if you have a bit of apron- it certianly helped me with the pulling and getting out of bed. I waited 4-5 days post-op until my incisions were nice and scabby and have worn mine every day for 3 months..... Im hoping prolonged support will help with sagging skin.

Did u guys have open surgery? My sleeve was laparoscopic, gallbladder out as well. Then had open hernia repairs through my old caesarean scar from twins. Would live compression around apron and hernias but not upper abdominal.

I have been looking at the compression garments with zippers up both sides for easy on and off.

Thanks everyone!! This board has so many wonderful people willing to provide advice and insight. It is so nice having a place to ask questions.

Only 5 days until the "Big" day.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
