I'm a newbie too!!!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I am a newbie to lapbandtalk! I wanted to come on here and hear as many stories (good, bad or indifferent) about the band so that I know what to expect when I get my band. Any advise oh wise ones?

Anyhow, show me love, cuz I'm a needy newbie hahaha! You guys all have a safe and fun holiday weekend! :humble:

Welcome to LBT!

Congrats on thinking about getting the band too!

There are lots of good threads about what to expect, what to take to the hosp, food for right after etc.

And people are always happy to answer any question you may have, I know I will do my best ;)

Nana~

Thanks everyone! So far I have really had alot of questions answered. I was looking at the PB section and I'm not looking forward to learning that lesson hahaha! But, it's all worth it I am certain. It is good to see some BAD things said about the band. Up until now I hadn't seen any "horror" stories on the band and was wondering if it was too good to be true kind of thing. But, I see the complications that could come.

My huband and I were talking last night and right now I think he is feeling as though he loves me the way I am and is a little sad for me to lose. He is such a CHUBBY CHASER! So I guess I need to work on showing him some much needed attention so he'll know I'm not going to fly the coupe after surgery. Poor guy. Oh well, I guess I feel wanted???:)

I was referred here by my friend Tricia Kutz, anyone know her? I was previously on obesity help and have a profile there, but this website seems to be a bit more organized and insightful than that one. But hey, its much like myspace and you can make a hella cool page right! Just another internet addiction to add to the ones I already have. Thanks for the warm welcome! :hippie:

Hey Mrs. Christy, I see you mentioned My Space. My daughter was rather insistent that I set up a myspace, so I have finally got it up and going and just joined the big lapband group they have. Are you a part of that group? Just wondering. I am a computer geek, gadget geek and internet addict too, lol.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
