No drain, no catheder, no morphine drip or pain pump. I had VSG as an outpatient procedure and slept peacefully in my own bed that night without hospital staff or other patients waking me up often. Yes, I went home with liquid perscription pain meds to take as needed ... which I only took once to get to sleep..

Number of incisions can vary, how surgeon closes incisions - staples or glue is different also.

Good luck on this journey to a new you.

I am pre-op but this was on my list of questions for my surgeon. He does both. The drain comes out before going home from the hospital and the catheter comes out the day after surgery (they do a 2 day stay at the hospital). I am not happy about the catheter at all as I had bad experiences with then with two childbirths. I was hoping it was placed and removed while I was under anesthesia.

No drain for me but I had a catheter that stayed in through the first night. They were very focused on how much I was drinking and urinating. I went home the day after surgery and have had no problems other than a little nausea that responded to meds and some barfing that's always been my fault for eating too fast and too much.

I had neither! unless you're a higher bmi, the surgery takes less than an hour, so usually, no catheter is needed. Also, in my experience, again, unless you are a higher bmi, you most likely won't have a drain. But honestly, you need to talk to your surgeon, and see what his preferences are.

I didn't wake up with any drains or catheters. Everything was removed by the time I was coherent enough to notice.
