paulsgirl1297 18 Posted July 11, 2012 I was wondering if anyone other sleevers had issues with Constipation, I was sleeved on June 21st and have been barely having bowel movements, I'm not uncomfortable yet, I tried colace without much success, I am still on mostly soft foods and liquids . The solid food and sometimes even my meds make me vomit .
butterbean 30 Posted July 11, 2012 This has been my biggest hurdle. My answer is Miralax, every night. Mix it in crystal lite or Water and it helps so much! 3 misslisa810, Jewels and mylifeinpink reacted to this

Pookeyism 1,143 Posted July 11, 2012 I have been drinking benefiber in my coffee, and Fiber supplement drinks, and it has eliminated the worst of the Constipation, BUT I still get pain as food travels down
*susan* 1,709 Posted July 11, 2012 Oh goodness, I remember those days! I was so uncomfortable, it was just awful. The only thing that worked for me was Milk of Magnesia, I think it may have save my life, LOL! 1 Jewels reacted to this

Erin6573 10 Posted July 11, 2012 I too have been having problems in this area. I used to go twice a day before surgery and now it is only once every few days and it is so frustrating. So I took some of this super dieters tea that my girlfriend had and I drank it. It worked a little bit, but the next day I felt sick all day and was on the couch. I think I'm going to go with the Miralax.
butterbean 30 Posted July 12, 2012 If you can pinpoint why you aren't going it might help you. This is way tmi, but I had developed hemorrhoids and a fissure and the physical pain and bleeding that came with pooping made me constipated. I was getting enough food IN to make a bowel movement, but I needed my stools to be softer and waterier, so the Miralax was the perfect soluction. It was overnight and gentle, an osmotic laxative that was just want I needed. If you need to "bulk up" your stool you will need something different, or if you if just need an extra "push" then something else might work better. I have done my research on this topic because I was so desperate. I had another thread about laxatives that might help. http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/44216-are-all-laxatives-created-equal/page__hl__laxatives__fromsearch__1
Looking Ahead 239 Posted July 12, 2012 Im having the same problem. Sleeved June 25. I bought MOM today but a aerving size is 4 oz. thats a full meal for me and omg it ws nasty. Chimera 644 Posted July 12, 2012 MOM helps me as well - but it certainly does suck that it has to replace a little meal lol. I swear it is the nastiest tasting stuff - gonna try the mirilax.

CelticHarpist 26 Posted July 12, 2012 I was wondering if anyone other sleevers had issues with Constipation, I tried colace without much success. I had two problem days of this but colace liquid worked for me. My dietician recommended Milk of Magnesia every three days, but I didn't need it after getting through that first hurdle usig the colace. She did recommend I start something from the local health food store called FOS (Fructooligosaccharide)- at 1/4 tsp daily for a week, then 1/2 tsp daily for a week, up to 3/4 a tsp daily for the rest. I guess it is used a lot in Japan for intestinal health. It is a slight dietary Fiber. Seems to have helped me.Celtic
Newfoundlove 95 Posted July 12, 2012 What a pain in the butt (pun intended) this is. Colace worked for awhile for me, then stopped working. I'm 10 weeks out now and eating pretty much anything, so my NUT said to add natural fiber foods in like oatmeal, more vegetables, apple slices and prunes. So in the morning, I eat a Sunsweet Prune, and I've been adding more vegetables into my diet too and it has helped. Also, the more Water I get in the better I do. If I'm below 64 ounces I seem to have more issues.

Rootman 1,101 Posted July 16, 2012 Yes, as NewFoundLove points out it most certainly IS a Pain In The Butt, there seems to be little that is more miserable as being constipated. When I hit puberty going on 45 some odd years ago I started to get constipated, this despite the fact that I ate a LOT of fiber stuff (love veggies) and drink a LOT of Water. I tried a few OTC things and most of them worked poorly or worked too well, and none could not be taken for an extended period. When Mirilax went OTC I started on it and it's been tolerable for the most part. I take 1/2 cap daily. I drink a whole lot of Water and of course my intake of food is fairly low so going maybe once every 3 or 4 days was "normal" for me, even on Mirilax. It usually just made it more comfortable to go. Then I heard of Chia seeds. Someone else on the forum recommended them because they swell up and adsorb a lot of water and are not really easily digested. They work like Mirilax does but for me seem to work better than Mirilax. I put two teaspoons in a chocolate pudding for lunch and 2 teaspoons in a yogurt for supper and things have moved along better than they have since I was a kid. I'm still on the 1/2 cap of Mirilax but once I'm out of it I asked my wife to NOT get any more and we'll see how I do while off it. It does seem to fill you up fairly well too so it may keep you from eating as much but the "secondary" effects are what do it for me. WARNING: They DO have a tendency to make me a little more gassy, so you've been warned
