Debra StC 2 Posted July 11, 2012 Well I have done great with exercise and weight loss. I am down 41lbs since the start of my two week liquid diet before surgery starting May 28. I was feeling great then after hitting the gym on June 28th I could not stand without severe pain in my stomach. I was very scared I had over done it in the gym but after being in pain for 4 days and a catscan, I was admitted with an infection and had to have my incision opened. Very painful!!!!! stayed in the hospital for four days and am seeing a wound care specialist and have been packing my incision. I am feeling much better now and am anxious to get back in the gym. I am wondering if I should wait until the incision is closed frrom the inside before returning to my routine? I do not want to go back into the hospital. Pookeyism 1,143 Posted July 11, 2012 You absolutely MUST consult with your surgeon...be careful, you can wait a little too long or you can not wait long enough...which sounds worse to you?
Debra StC 2 Posted July 11, 2012 I would much rather wait until I am healed. This has been a very painful experience. I am on the mend and I feel great. Good luck with your last 6lbs!! I can't wait for my countdown!
TinaMari 75 Posted July 11, 2012 I agree with Pookey!!! I'm glad to see your doing better though. Good luck with everything!
kimmy*custis 276 Posted July 11, 2012 I would wait or at least do something not so strenuous, maybe the treadmill? You dont want to be back in the hospital!
StormWarning 194 Posted July 11, 2012 I have not had surgery yet, but I would highly suggest finding something at home as far as exercise. Gyms are very germ filled places. Cross contamination can happen very easily, as easily as holding on to treadmill bars or elliptical handles, and then for some reason brush across your incisions, whether by drying off with a towel or a rub from the hand. I am not saying gyms are bad, but since you have had one infection, your primary concern is to get better and healed and you don't want to become prone to infections. Again all IMO.
