Playstation For Some Exercise?

Recommended Posts

Please don't laugh because I"m being serious. My daughter got the Playstation with the games you have to get up and move to play. I didn't play because I was self-conscious about the obvious. However, I am seriously considering getting this set-up for myself.

  • I could play at night (I work 2 jobs),
  • It would be alitle more interesting than a treadmill, etc.
  • Might get me enough in shape over the winter (I hate winter) so that come spring I will feel better coming out of my hibernation.
  • I was surprised at how sore and exhausted my daughter and her boyfriend (both in military) were at the end and my husband who has a highly physical job was also whipped.

Has anybody used this as their basic exercise?

What are your opinions (remember I am extremely limited on time)?

I have an XBox 360 with Kinect. I use it for exercise. I have a couple workout games, sport games, dance games, and Zumba. With the Kinect you are the controller so it is really hard to cheat the game. I get a really good workout. I can do it on my schedule because it's in my house. I think it's a good idea to use these game consoles for exercise.

I say go for it! I don't think it could hurt you, and if you aren't getting any results after a few weeks, just try something different. I've used the Wii for some exercises. It's fun!

Xbox....that was it! Do you get on-line to play others or just by yourself. Wonder if there are any other WLS patients doing this on line....we could exercise together. :)

The sports game I do play against other's online. The other's I don't think I can. You would be suprised how much fun you can have and still get a workout in. I also play with my family every chance we get.

I don't see anything wrong with it. I use MFP and I KNOW someone's journal/diary I peeked at did their exercise on their Wii and it counted in MFP. The point of getting up and moving is just that - doesn't matter how - just make it count! U go hon!

I have EA sports active for the ps3. I like it because it doesn't require me to set up the move system to use it. It comes with sensors that monitor your movement and heartrate.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
