Super Bummed....surgery Cancelled

Recommended Posts

Wow...I really admire your resolve! I have seriously been a puddle of goo these past few days. It takes so much strength to remain positive at this massive disappointment. But' date=' we CAN do it, and we WILL do it! <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />[/quote']

Well.......I will probably be a puddle of goo in a day or so. This all happened today. I went from 13lbs down in 12 days (on liquids) to......you possibly need a blood transfusion, cancel your surgery, and your seeing a hematologist tomorrow!!! If it weren't for this forum and my family I might just crawl into bed with a cheesecake and not resurface for the next year. I just have always been of the belief that everything happens for a reason and there must have been some obstacle or hurdle that would have been to great for me to overcome no matter how ready I was. So another force (I happen to call him God) intervened to ensure I have the best chance at success. That's the only way I will get through this huge disappointment. My sister has called me 5 or 6 times already asking if I'm really ok. She had this done over 4 years ago and she is so upset knowing how far I've come to have it pulled out from under me this late. She's been willing me for 12 days not to cheat on liquids and helping me through. So after the last call she said "why are you still talking to me, I would have already eaten everything in the house! Go eat something!!" :). It'll just become a peace you feel when you accept this was not your time and it's for reasons we may never see (I'm not quite there, but the process of sharing my disappointment and telling everyone has been therapeutic so far).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
