Any Long Islanders?

Recommended Posts

I live in Port Washington, bordering Manhasset -- and still chose to go to Dr. Ren at NYU. I wouldn't have had it any other way (and luckily didn't have to test that out), and cannot recommend her enough. Her husband, Dr. Fielding, is equally excellent from what I've heard, and himself is a lap band patient.

Hey Jenna, you and Lynette should get together. You're both about the same age and close to banding dates.

I was banded in March with Dr Powers. Im planning on going to the July 15 support group at Syosset. I would have gone last night if I had remembered.

You folks should give it a shot too.

Hey, does anyone recall how long the pre-surgical testing at the hospital took?

Mine is scheduled for 8am, but I have to work from 3-7 that afternoon and it is really important that I am not late as I'm the only one covering the phones at that time.

So how long did it take and what did it consist of?

Thanks in advance. You all are a GODsend!!!

They said to give it two hours. Everyone starts out at the admissions office doing insurance and general information. Even though I needed to give a blood sample, talk to the pre op nurse and anesthesiologist it still took two hours. There is alot of sit and wait. If you haven't already had it done (I had some of mine done by PCP) you will need pregnancy test(urine), EKG, Blood(type & cross match), meeting w/ anesthesiologist, meeting w/ hospital nurse(go over legal and last minute questions) and a little more paperwork. I think that is it.

Good luck

I think mine took an hour or less. All they did was ask me a bunch of questions regarding allergies, current medications, family history and then they took my weight, a blood sample, blood pressure, etc. It wasn't long at all.

Here's an NSV LI'ers can appreciate --> I went to the Water park Splish Splash, out in Riverhead.

I wore a bathing suit in public  and had no worries on a few slides that had weight restrictions

It was a good day

Wow that is great! There are some rather freaky slides out there. More power to you for not only sliding down them but also the long wait in line with only your suit on. Hope to be there some day.

Congrats for being able to feel comfortable in your bathing suit in public. I've never been to splish splash but I want to go someday.

I am starting out a little less than what you started at. Will I be able do do it? How come some people lose only about 40 and then others 140?-Elisa

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
