That's great that you already attended the seminar, Jess.

One more thing to check off your check list.

I'd say I was there 2 hours total from door to door.

After I signed in, they gave me the paper work to fill out and when that was done I'd say maybe I waited 10 min. tops til I was called in. After I saw the PA I waited maybe 5 min to see Dr Geiss and then after that right in to the Coordinator. And that was it.

Sort of like speed dating LOL!

Not that I'd know!! LOL!

When you go into the hospital, go straight ahead to the front desk and someone will walk you over to his office.

The office is down the hall to the left of the front desk.

I was a nervous wreak going to that appointment, I don't know why??

I am Never nervous!

But rest assured Dr Geiss is the nicest, kindest man/DR.

In fact he passed me a few times before I saw him in his office and each time he asked if I was okay and I assured him I was.

He later said that he thought I looked nervous LOL!

He put me at ease immediately.

You/We are in very good and capable hands!

I haven't been banded yet .. that's May 7th.

But if there is anything you need to know that you forget to ask that I can help with feel free to ask, I'll tell ya what I know and what my experience is.

Hi Im a patient of Dr Powers in the same office as Dr Geiss. They use the same office/support staff. I really liked Dr Powers and he is not as busy as Dr G so you can get in to see him sooner/quicker. I like that I only talked to him. I was not passed off to anyone. He gave me all the information. A little bit more personal.

msjessy do write down your questions and concerns to take with you.

Thanks Ajoneen. I was actually thinking of calling back and making my appt with Dr. Powers. The reason I chose to go with Dr. Geiss was bc of what I saw during the seminar. Dr. Geiss was warm and personable, while Dr. Powers just seemed a little dry. I"m the kind of person that would probably need a lot of hand-holding during this procedure, so that's why I decided to stick it out and wait for Dr. Geiss to become available.

While I hear that the support staff is great, ultimately its the DR who's doing the surgery, and I have to be 100% comfortable in him.

I guess as the days go by, and if I become too impatient I'll call and schedule with Dr. Powers.

Thanks everyone!

Good luck to Ellen and bigdawg on your upcoming surgery.

msjessy - I don't know much about Dr Powers but I've met him a few times when in the office. If you do require a lot of hand holding, you may want to think about switching. The one thing that I wish I knew before (although I probably still would have gone with him) is that the last time you'll see Dr Geiss is surgery. I guess the PA's do ALL his follow up?

You'll only see an MD twice after surgery. The first time is 7-10 days post-op when they check to make sure you're healing OK. The next time is for the first fill. After that, you'll ONLY see a PA.

I had my pre op seminar for lap band at LIJ today with Dr Geiss' nurse. Almost there, Monday is the big day. Seminar is mostly just a rehash of everything. liquid diet stinks, but hey I got myself here and being fat stinks worse.

actually...I saw the PA for my post-op visit, but I was lucky enough to have Dr. Geiss do one of my every 6 week visits, usually I see a PA for that too. I have no idea who I'll see for a fill, I'm almost 6 months post-op and haven't had a fill yet.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
