Hi hrshygrl. I live in Oceanside and I'm using Dr. Geiss also. I just finished all my preop tests and hope to get a surgery date sometime this week from the doc.

twiceblessed -

I had to do a sleep study. 2 actually ... 1 to determine I have(had) sleep apnea and 1 to see what levels I would need for a CPAP machine. (that I never used)

I'm not going to lie, it wasn't fun but it was a requirement. Scheduling wasn't easy so you should look into it ASAP!

I had to do 2 also. I didn't get my machine yet.

Hi, I was just banded September 2 by Dr. Powers, who is Dr. Geiss' associate. After all of your initial testing is complete, they review your file and then you get a surgery date. Make sure you call the office to make sure your file is complete. They schedule the date, then submit to your insurance company. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask. So far, so good with me (even though it has only been 5 days.)

Good luck!

I hope you feel well. I'm getting nervous...I expect to get my surgery date sometime this week. They are now booking for the 2nd or 3rd week in October.

Hi LCube-

I do feel well, thank you! There is hardly any residual pain. I don't know if you saw my other posts, but the only problem I had with the whole thing was a little nausea directly after surgery and some gas trapped under my ribcage and shoulders. Honestly, that was the most uncomfortable thing. I walked a lot, even one half hour after surgery! That finally got rid of the painful gas. (But, not everyone gets the gas pain.) The two other women who had surgery the same day as me did NOT have that pain. So you see, you will be in great hands!

Good luck!

Thank you! I only met Dr. Geiss once so far but I am very impressed and I believe I am in good hands. The staff in his office has been greyt. I'm so glad you feel well. Do you know if he does surgery on certain days of the week. I'm trying to think about my schedule. I want to get this done as soon as possible. Please keep me posted about how you are doing and feeling.

I am not sure if Dr. Geiss has certain days that he performs surgery. That may be a good question to call the office about. So far, I know people who used those doctors who have had operations on both Monday and Tuesday. Sometimes it is a good idea to have surgery earlier in the week just incase there are any small complications. Remember, you do stay overnight as well. The following morning, you have to have that floroscopy done where you drink a small amount of barium to see how you are swallowing and to see if the band is in the right spot!....

Hi to all the Long Island banders!!!!

I had my surgery on the 18th of August and at that time I had Oxford Health Insurance... My insurance will be changing in November to GHI and I know that my current Dr does not take GHI... I was wondering if any of you know if your doctors take GHI so I can follow up with them for my future fills???

Thanks for any information!

Jo Ann

I am so excited. After interviewing several surgeons, i have decided to go forward with dr. geiss's office. they are so nice. I turned in everything I have completed and they just want me to have a upper gi which i scheduled for saturday and meet with the pulmonary dr on thrusday where we will discuss if having the sleep apnea test is needed. I spoke with I believe her name was Karen and she said if I can get them the disk for the upper gi on monday I could have insurance approval and a date as early as next week. They are currently scheduling for the 3rd week of october. I am so excited I just want to yell quietly. I hope the pulmonary doctor will work with me considering I just had general anesthesia on friday for my last operation with no problems. Dr. geiss is far from middle island, but i think he is worth the drive after meeting all the different surgeons he is the one that really seems to care and take the time to address any issues. To me, that is what is important.

Hi Twiceblessed....

That group is definitely worth the drive! They are so experienced and are one of the best practices in the country for lap band surgery.

I hope you get your date soon. It took them about a week to schedule mine after my file was complete. Make sure you call Jennifer or one of the PA's to tell you that the file is complete.

Let me know when your date is.....and btw, when I had my surgery on Sept 2, I met two other women and 2 other men the same day. They were all fantastic people and the two women and I are going to meet this weekend!

Good luck,

Susan

That's good to know susancarole! Hey twiceblessed...maybe we'll have surgery at the same time and we can meet. At any rate, we should all get together when we have finished our surgery if you would like that! I would!

I have also been very impressed with Dr. Geiss and his staff. They have all been so nice and helpful. I've only called a couple of times, but they remembered me each time.

Hello Fellow Long Islanders,

I have been lurking here for months and I finally decided I would introduce myself.

I live in a sayville and I am the mother of two beautiful girls ages 3.5 and 2.

I have been yo-yo dieting for at least the last 15 years and I have lost over 80 lbs, 3 separate times only to gain it back. I have recently ballooned to my highest wieght ever and i know I can't face that 8o lb weight lose journey again to just end up a failure.

I met with Dr. Geiss today. Loved him and his staff. They really made me feel comfortable and postive about my choice. He is obviously passionate about this tool for weight lose and believes in it whole-heartedly.

I left his office at 4:00 today and by the time I had gotten home I had all of my pre testing appointments made for this coming week. Except I could not get an appointment with a pumolnolgist for 2.5 weeks. Can anyone give me the name of the doctor they used for this test? :cool2: I would really like to make an appointment Monday morning to see them asap.

Thank you for all your inspiring stories. I can't wait to join you in band land.:wink2:

Chris

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
