Elisabethsew 50 Posted March 15, 2008 Hi Amanda, I'm glad to hear that you're recovering from the surgery and yes, there is also an emotional recovery that needs to take place also. Give the support group a try. You'll find you're not in this alone.
Ellen11703 0 Posted April 8, 2008 Hi! Maybe someone here can answer a question for me please. I am a patient of Dr. Geiss, the office called this past Friday, April 4th and told me they have received all of my test results and consults and clearances and insurance approval. Now it will go up for review and assigned a surgery date. Can anyone tell me how long it took to hear back on an OR date once every thing was submitted? Thanks for your help and info you can provide. I just don't want to keep calling over there and bothering them, I know it is such a busy office. Thanks again.
Ron Cusano 0 Posted April 8, 2008 Some of the members of our support group are Dr. Guiss' patients and I believe it can take from a month to a couple of months. We meet the first Wed. of every month in East Northport, it's free and you are welcome to come. Let me know if you are interested. Blessings, Ron Hi! big dawg 1 Posted April 8, 2008 I have Empire and it took about a week after all the testing to get approval and then they called right away. No correct that my file got put in a drawer after testing so I lost about ten days. But 1 week after that. Keep checking your status.
big dawg 1 Posted April 8, 2008 Took about 6 weeks for OR day.
ajoneen 0 Posted April 9, 2008 Ellen11703 After I jumped through all the hoops and got insurance on board I heard about 10 days later. I had to wait 2 months for surgery date because my Doc(powers) went on vacation for a month. Don't be afraid to call you are the client.

msjessy 0 Posted April 10, 2008 So I am having my first consultation with Dr. Geiss on May 27th, and was wondering if there is anything that I should do before meeting with him? I already have a physical and bloodwork lined up with my PCP. I'm 25 with a BMI of 47 and no comorbities. Should I schedule a Psych and/or Nutritionist consultation with someone else in-Network? Or is it mandatory that you see his Psych and Nutritionist? Any and ALL help is greatly appreciated. I'm so excited that I have started this journey, and pray that my Insurance comes thru for me. Ellen11703 0 Posted April 10, 2008 Hi MsJessy, You really don't need to do anything before your appointment except watch the online lapband video, you will receive the link and a patient code in a letter in the mail. Bring all your insurance info and list of any meds you take regularly including OTC meds. At your appointment you will fill out some paper work. You will see the PA and she/he will go over the video and answer any questions. Then you'll see the doctor, he is very nice and will give you more info ask you questions and answer yours. Then you'll see the coordinator and she will give you the list of required tests and all the referrals you will need, some requirements are specific to your insurance provider. You will get a folder of info all about the procedure. You will need to attend a meeting of the Support Group which is scheduled for the 1st Tuesday of each month, 6:30 - 8pm at the North Ritz Club, which is diagionally across from Syossett Hospital on Jericho Tpk.. Make sure you sign the sign in sheet. You can bring a guest. It is very informational! I didn't need a physical from my PCP, you will have that when you go for your medical clearance. The only blood test needed was a Thyroid Function Test, T3, T4 and TSH. The usual blood work you'll have done at the time of your pre-op work up. (10 day before at the hospital). You will need a Psych and Nutritional consult, you can see your own, but you will still need to see their staff nutritionist, they have two, who will go over Dr Geiss' specific diet details. She spent almost an hour with me. It was quite informative and you will get a binder with a ton of info. Go with all your questions, keep a list if you need to! I hope I was able to provide you with some info.
msjessy 0 Posted April 10, 2008 Thank you Ellen. All of this information was EXTREMELY helpful. I attended the seminar at the Ritz earlier this month. I'm so freaking excited about this I can't stand it!! I wish my appointment was earlier, but "Good Things Come to Those Who Wait"...or so I tell myself. How long were you in the office during the initial appointment? It sounds like it'll be a long time considering all that gets done in the one sitting.
