Any Long Islanders?

Recommended Posts

I'm in Suffolk. I get banded on the 21st, and would love to have a get together sometime after, if anyone is able.

http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_50_5.gif I need to hear from some people who have been banned by Dr. Geiss. That is the doc who is doing my surgery. I will be attending the October 3rd meeting. At that time all my pre-op testing will be complete. When do I get a surgery date? Anyone working will the Geiss Team know how it works?

I am using Dr. Geiss for my banding. I would love to hear your thoughts about your experience. I need some reassurance.

Dr. Geiss was my surgeon and I am also an RN who has known and worked with him for 20+ years. He's done well over 1000 lapbanding surgeries and has excellent stats.

You need to call the office and tell the staff that you completed all the pre-op requirements. They will then give your chart to a PA for review. The PA signs off on the chart that day or the next day and you're given a surgery date... 4-6 weeks after all requirements are done.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.

I am also a Long Islander, Huntington, and i'm game for a get together.

Dr Geiss was(is) my surgeon, I was at the 10/3 meeting, I was the lucky guy who got to tell his first PB story to the crowd. I believe you will also have a nutrition meeting coming up this month...the 17th at 6pm I think, I will be at the post op meeting which follows at 7pm. So you can meet me in between those meetings too!

Dr. Geiss and his staff are absolutely the best. June is his OR nurse and he referred to her at the meeting as the Chief of Staff, or head of the OR, she is amazing, sweet and funny. I couldn't have felt more comfortable going through all of this. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me directly. His current number of surgeries is now past 1400 lapbands. You can always get an answer from his staff, Liz and Kathy handle insurance stuff, Melanie and Dr. Powers will help out with fills, and the new fellow is Evan...he's the late night on call Doc. If you have a problem at 2am...call and he will take care of you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
