I'm back everybody! I was orginianlly banded a few years ago in 2007 and had a revision done a week ago due to a leak in the band. All that time when the Dr., PA's, people on this website, my mom and finally I thought that the weight wasn't coming off due to compliance issues on my part, it turns out I've been vindicated! All that time I thought the band was being filled with saline when in fact, the saline was leaking out.

I have friends who lost almost all their excess weight who were banded after me and to be honest, I was a tad bit jealous that it worked for them. I'm hoping and praying that it works this time for me, for good.

BTW, when you look at my ticker, I kept the old information on there regarding how much weight I lost with the old band. I'm just going to update it as much as possible.

considering that Geiss's office has more then 6000 patients this is a very quiet board. Does anyone go to the support meetings?

I went to the Feb & March meetings this year for "over 1 year banded", maybe a dozen folks were there. I went to a few meetings when first banded (08)- but back then you had to pay $20 a meeting- wasn't worth it. Still 12 out of over 6000???? It's a shame because the more I live with the band and work to lose weight the more I understand that the learning curve is broad.

Maybe you could be the catalyst that gets more of Dr. Geiss' patients to go to the support meetings. I went but felt discouraged because so many of the over 1 year banded people that were at the meetinsg were still extremely over-weight and were talking about issues that I didn't have. Now that I had my revision I'm going to make an effort to go to more meetings. If not there then at NUMC because its closer to my home.

I live on Long Island and July 7 will make one year since I have had the surgery. Weight loss has been slow (but that is my own decision) yet I am so very happy with my progress.

I have to say I feel like a new woman. Here is some funny irony: I met someone who LIKES "thick" women....hahaha So he loved me the way I am--where the hell was he when I felt like a whale? But none of that matters because I am going to continue to lose weight and feel good about myself. He loves me either way.

Hi, you've the surgery done right? Are you willing to mentor someone? I am getting my surgery done on the fourth of June and I would love it if I could have someone help me with my weight loss process?

With you finding your someone who loves you regardless of your size is a wonderful thing. My bf is a skinny dude and I'm a big girl but he still loves me for me, he said I'm perfect at the size I am but yeah that's good to know that he thinks that but I want to be perfect at a smaller healthy size:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
