Hello fellow believing sleevers. I am just wondering if this forum is still active and if not let's get it going again.

I am 8 days post op....had my surgery in Mexico, took a giant leap of faith by going there and let God guide me through the journey. I was scared to death, but I let God be my Pilot and he delivered me back home safe and sound. I couldn't have done this without Him. The decision to have surgery was one that required so much prayer and then to decide to do it in Mexico was something I really had to pray about.

Today I am reading Romans 12:12 "Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer"

Hope everyone has a blessed day.

Girlfriday (Alabama) :)

As far as pre op, just hang in there. Pre op was rough and traveling across the country didn't make it easy either. Once you are post op......all I can say is WALK, WALK, WALK to help ease the gas pain. I was up and walking 2 hours after surgery and I walked every 30 minutes. Once you are allowed to have Clear liquids, just SIP. It will be easier to take bigger sips a few days out, but continue to SIP. Get your fluids in. The main thing for me, is I have not just lied around. I was shopping in the tourist district 3 days post op in Tijuana, lol. Nothing strenuous, just a good opportunity to keep moving. Now, at 8 days, if I start having discomfort I just get up and walk. Good luck!

I firmly believe that God guides my life. I looked into the sleeve about 18 months or so ago & we prayed about it and it just didn't seem right at the time. I tried other things in the meantime and then this April the sleeve came up again and we started praying about it again. This time it just felt right and everything fell into place immediately for financing. Now that I've had the surgery and am down 45 lbs from my high weight before my pre-op diet, I have no doubt that it was the right thing at this time in my life and that it all fell into place because it was right and with Heavenly Father's help!

Glad to see a post here too :0) I am right with all of you, God definitely is who directed my path to the sleeve and to Mexico (8/3). My hubby had RNY 2.5 yrs ago and even at that time, I didnt think surgery was for me....I could do it the "old fashioned way" because of course I had done it before right...yeah and gained it all back and then some.

It wasnt until the end of last year that I knew the Lord was telling me surgery WAS in fact my answer (this was news to me). Then He directed me to the sleeve and we waited...and waited to see if I would get hired at my job and get insurance (work for staffing agency right now). Waited to see if my husband would get a teaching job and get insurance. Went to a consultation of my husbands surgeon, but cash price was not doable. Considered Mx and knew it would have to be God for sure that would make that call. Felt for a few months the Lord was just having us wait...there were other emotional/deep issues that had to be dealt with and I did.

As I began to deal with those and continue to pray about surgery...giving it all to Him and truly surrendering, knowing only His timing would be the right time He made it all start falling into place. I literally had to learn to love myself EVEN if I remained this size and know that I am worthy to be loved and can be used by Him EVEN at this size....losing weight would not change my purpose, it would just make it more feasable and of course I would be more healthy for Him and my family.

I could not have more peace about my surgery and my decision of Mx and surgeon...God is good and will always give us the desires of our heart if we delight oursleves in Him!

I REALLY wanted this surgery and at the same time I was REALLY scared to do it. I mean...what if I was some freak statistic and I died or something??? I have three boys and a husband counting on my being around for a while! I made the decision with my husband, knowing I had picked the best surgeon I could find, and more importantly, I had to remember that GOD is totally and completely sovereign over EVERY molecule in the universe. He knows the beginning to the end. Not one moment of worry was going to change what was ordained by God. I made the decision and knew that whatever the outcome it would be to His glory. Even still, I was a freaked out mess the whole week before surgery, and just prayed all day. I'm happy to report I've had a flawless recovery and fantastic loss. I'm very very happy. Glad you got this going!

Amen Misty.....you brought tears to my eyes. I have had a very poor self image carrying all this weight around. I recently read a book by Renee Swope called, "A Confident Heart." Aside from being overweight, I just suffered from low self esteem and severe depression. I just really hated myself. I knew God loved me. I knew my family loved me. I knew I was worth something to them, but I didn't feel like I was worth anything to myself. I felt useless....overweight, unhealthy, never feeling good and depressed. God used her book to minister to me and it was like she wrote it just to me. It is a great read. I highly recommend it. I could not do anything in life without prayer and listening to God. I may not always be at my best, but God doesn't see that in us. Congratulations on your decision and I too was sleeved by Dr. Garcia. You will have a great experience. The staff at the hospital are so caring and so nice. Not many speak a lot of English, so if you have a smart phone or ipad put the Google Translate" app on it and use that. I could type in "I am in pain", "I need water", "I am nauseaous" and it translated it into spanish for them. I also wanted them to know I was a pharmacist and that I wanted to know what the drugs were i was receiving, so I typed in "I am a pharmacist. I need to know all the names of the drugs I am receiving." It worked out great. If you have any questions or concerns please let me know. I would be glad to help in any way.

Pre op they start your IV with sodium chloride ( and the pumps are not electronic, lol. Just good old fashioned gravity). They gave me dexethasone, ceftriaxona aka ceftriaxone for us, zofran, and toradol (all are IV). It seems like there was another one but I can't recall. They keep giving you that scheduled. Also if u have a hx of breathing problems/asthma they stay on top of that with breathing treatments. If you have sleep apnea bring your cpap. Anesthesiologist wants it handy in recovery if needed. Post op, u will get IV toradol, ceftriaxona and zofran and I think some heparin or lovenox. I remember getting an injection In

My upper right arm And it is bruised (I was very groggy). I was never in any serious pain that would have required a narcotic. Toradol (ketorolac) took care of my pain very well. You are NPO post op until your first leak test. I was miserable from dry mouth. Forget any pain, my mouth was dry. They let me swish Water around my mouth and spit out but Bring some extra glycerin swabs if u can and really LOAD up on the Water and that may help some. Discharged with antibiotic (their version of keflex maybe because it smelled like it and sublingual ketorolac, only about 8 tablets, but they worked fine and I didn't need all of them. They also give bottle of liquid that has maalox, reglan and simethicone mixed together, I guess sort of like a GI cocktail. Keep that handy, even for the plane if u r traveling by air. They let me take it thru checked baggage (after they tested it of course.....lol). Sorry if I was too specific. The whole drug part is my thing and I wanted to know and see them. Let me know if u have any other questions and I would be happy to answer them.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
