So, my husband and I have a cruise booked for November. I'm kind of concerned about finding summer clothes that will fit me come November, as I will be 5 months post op at that point and assume none of my current summer clothes will fit well then. Any suggestions about this?

Wait until about a week or two before your trip to buy anything.

You think I'll be able to buy out of season clothes on November? That's what's perplexing me.

You're in LA so probably. I'm not sure what the weather is like there in November, but here we can buy summer clothes all year round.

You could also try and guess what size you'll be by then, if nothing else it'll be motivation to get you there, or if they're just a tad too big that's OK too. I bought the dress for my BFF's wedding about 2 months in advance in the size I thought I'd be. Luckily it fit beautifully. Just remember your weight loss will slow down so make sure you're realistic with your sizing if you do decide to guesstimate. ;-)

I'm sure September/October there will be plenty of summer items on clearance and you could guesstimate your size. Also, thrift stores and consignment shops might have a decent selection since they don't change their items out as often. If you want to buy stuff a month or two ahead of time, pay attention to the return policy. I just bought some bras at Lane Bryant's semi-annual sale. I know they have a 60 day return policy so I'm going to try to hold off on wearing half of them and then see if I need to exchange them for a smaller size in 2 months. But, again, seasonal clothing might not have that option.

And, I feel your pain. I had surgery 6/25 and I'm in a wedding 10/20. I have to order my dress in the next two weeks to get it here by then! I have no idea what size I'm going to be and with waiting until the last minute to order I might not have time for many alterations when it gets here! Eeek!

I've been wondering the same thing. I should have my surgery in October or November and my hubby and I have a cruise in Feb.

I figure I will work out something.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
