Throwing Up Chewble Vitamins!

Recommended Posts

Ditto for me with the Bariatric Advantage! I am 4 weeks out and they are the only thing that has made me sick (about 1 minute later everytime). I finally just bought some Fintstones and had no issues. Thank goodness I didn't stock up on them!

Please let me know what he says. I take the Bariatric Advantage capsules now and I'm no longer sick but it's 6 pills and I only manage to take down 3 pills. Why do our drs hv such different beliefs???? My doc says I can take the capsules

My story is the same with regards to the huge chewable Bariatric Advantage Multivitamins. They were fine preop, but i always throw up when taking these post op. In fact, it happened to me again today. I am now on a Quest to find a Gummy version that is easier on my stomach based upon some good posts in this forum. Never take these! I don't see how these can be on the market. Furthermore, i don't see how surgery doctors can endorse these unless there is some kind of snuggly relationship between bariatric advantage and the doctor. Not that this is wrong, but the product causes so many to get sick. Class action lawsuit anyone? Seriously....

I've gone the gummy route at the suggestion of my doctor's nurse. Not sure how helpful they are but it's better than the nothing I was doing before.

I don't think it's worth the lawsuit but I found out that the reason why it makes us nauseous is it can Irritate the lining where the sutures are for some and for others it's fine

Thanks for the scientific response. It is good that there is a real reason. Still, the product seems flawed if this is true and they are designed for people how have had stomach surgery. Need them to do some R&D to make these chewables better for people like us. Thanks for the tip on vitafusion. I already take their Fiber gummies and would have no problem taking their Gummy multivitamins.

It is good to know I am not the only one who cannot take the Bariatric Advantage. They make me feel sick and I have thrown them up as well. I usually wait till I am hungry at night and take it right before bed. I hate them! I have had them with and without food...still the same! My husband is taking them now and he says they are fine. I am going to look for an alternative because seriously I only take them about once a week because of the nausea. I thought it might go away because right after surgery I couldn't tolerate the Protein shakes very well either. I switched to Almond milk and can do the Protein shake with it!

If anyone has suggestions about a good Multivitamin please let me know.

Those Vitamins were the only thing that made me throw up and my surgery was July 16th.

I take CVS children's chewable multi's. They're animal shaped. My PA looked at the ingredients and said they were good. I also take a sublingual B12, Calcium and D.

If you throw up your chewables - as I did too with those big nasty Bariatric Advantage brand ones you should try these. At our 100 day check up my group was cleared to take capsule Vitamins. This is what they recommend - the NUT's tell us to stay away from the flintstones chewables as even if you double up on the adult dosage they are not a complete form of Vitamin supplementation for bariatric patients (I know doctors are different).

These come with Iron or no Iron - depending on how you take your Calcium - (hubby and I are doing the Citrical petites and the chewables as well.) We tried the iron from Celebrate as well, it is firmer than the Bariatric Advantage brand and they dont go dark and soft as fast. they have a rewards program and you get points for every order - so you can get free and discounted supplements and products as well.

These changed my post surgical life - whew :) No more nausea and vomiting.

The B A Vitamins were making me sooo sick , but I'm a dummy it took a few weeks to figure it out . I take source of life chewable vitamins and split the dose am/pm and feel great . I have even converted my wife who always "encouraged"me to take vitamins pre-op. my 6 month blood work was perfect. They have a women's formula I notice it's low in icalcium and vit d but that is covered with Calcium powder or chewies. Good luck and feel better!

@chimera, thanks for the tip. I ordered the Iron kind from Amazon. With overnight shipping, still less than buying direct. I am already taking capsules and about 3 months out, so should be ok to take these. Looking forward to reliefs from my daily rejection of the B A Multivitamin.< /p>

I just got the Celebrate with Iron in the mail today. The bottle says to take 3 daily, but does this mean 1 with each meal? Also, when should i take my calcium chews? I hears that iron and Calcium cancel each other out, so typically i take the chews an hour after a meal or an hour after taking multivitamin. Should i continue doing this? Yay, i get to throw the BA tablets into the deepest darkest pit i can find and best of all, no more throwing up from the multivitamin.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
